Sorry, my poorly defined post. I was referring to the member who was attacking you -- not you.

    Didn't I give a proof before?

    OK, another one...
    https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/breitbart-fake-news-alex-marlow/

But I know ... all bad evil lefty wing bias, eh?

Sure, we lost WW-1 and WW-2, no doubt about and I never disputed.
One of our mistakes was the overconfidence and glorification of war in general as a good thing. With you, this is more and more apparent ... together with an underestimation of potential opponents!

and it's not about whether the wars I mentioned were good or bad ... it's about the US simply losing those 3 wars.
United States war aim in Vietnam: support and maintenance of the South Vietnamese government in its fight against the "evil" communist Viet Cong, which is also massively supported by troops from "evil" communist North Vietnam. Everything, of course, during the Cold War, of course ... but was the war aim achieved? Is there still South Vietnam? No!

The same is true of Iraq and it is the case in Afghanistan ... or do you think that the Afghan government that you have brought into office and supported will survive after your retreat against the Taliban? Seriously?

Yes, that story is biased especially when it bases it's headline that Breitbart prints fake news on a link to a CNN article that says no such thing.

I would think you would be more supportive of the US efforts in VN to prevent a communist takeover considering your country suffered from a communist takeover itself. If you don't think this is evil, then you must have been a fan of Stalin.

I don't have time to search for the number killed after Saigon fell. Did we achieve our war aims? Of course not, but since we had a peace treaty and removed the majority of our military I don't think you can say we lost the war, South Vietnam did. It would be like saying the allies lost WWI because they did not achieve the war aims of preventing Germany from being able to build up an offensive military. I don't see how you can possibly say we lost the Iraq war simply because ISIS took over a part of Iraq, the Iraq government has since taken it back. Afghanistan, I don't know what they expect to accomplish before saying mission accomplished. The region is too unstable and corrupt to become a stable country friendly to us. Since we are still there, we can't say we lost yet.

Lol ... because you rate CNN as fake news, it is of course bias? Seriously? If this is not one minded, what then?

Not really ... because the question is whom you are supporting and helping against evil communist, eh? But this questions was rarely asked in the US, because importnat was only that they are stron anti-communist, rest does not matter. Out of this you supported worst dictators and regimes ... and of these bloody regimes was the one who was in power in South Vietnam!

    Wrong...
the point is that as soon as war becomes "uncomfortable" for a US war, and above all support for an on-going war effort in the US is minimal, then the US has a nasty habit of getting out of the way as quickly as possible with flimsy negotiations and a supposedly mission accomplished.
See Vietnam, where support for the war was gone, as we all know ... so quickly sign a peace agreement where everyone knew it was not worth the paper it's written on and out of the Mad House with "Mission accomplished ". Result = South Vietnam fell and for what were 50,000 more US soldiers killed in Vietnam at the end / at least, eh?
And that's how it went in Iraq and that's how it will be in Afghanistan ... and that's a defeat!

Probably by giving up. They won't lose in a conventional way.

ROFL ... unlike you, we've learned from our mistakes in Germany ... and nice to see you make the same mistakes as we used to.

But anyway ... another lame answer that does not change the fact that you've lost Vietnam, Iraq 2003 and basically Afghanistan ... and it does not matter who's telling you this truth![/QUOTE]

The German conflicts and American conflicts are totally different. Germany got curb stomped in both WWI and WWII. Millions of Germans died, their women were raped wholesale, and the country was laid to ruins. If not for the United States Germans would now be speaking Russian. In fact America still has troops in Germany to protect them.

The conflicts in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan were collation wars. Actually Germany was involved in a couple of them so if you feel they were lost Germany lost them. If they lost they were lost it was by the collation. However, in all three of these conflicts the opposing militarys were soundly defeated. The US inflicted lopsided casualties and destruction on their enemies. What was lost was the peace. Unlike in Germany where the Americans left troops to mostly keep Russia from sacking all of Germany, Americans are no longer willing to keep troops in all these s-hole countries.

Staying forever ain't winning. And it costs a lot of taxpayer money.

Limited war is always destined for defeat.

Conventional war is unlimited war, no rules. You kill people and bust and burn their stuff until they surrender.

Limited war is always destined for defeat.

I'll give you a break since English isn't your first language, if you try again to comprehend my post you'll see that I said the theamericanconservative.com was biased because they claim Breitbart prints fake news based on a CNN article that says no such thing. Now, try again.

"Time to Get Out of Afghanistan"

we never should of got in Afghanistan, just realize, like Iraq, when we leave it will get ugly, we have weakened the countries and the religious fanatics with weapons will take control

remember, it was only a few religious fanatics that stole a few planes and crashed them into building - we spent Trillions and have actually created more fanatics, not less in that time

it would be like some small US group attacking China and China attacking our entire country with everything they had because of it, that over-reaction on China's part would hurt both China and the USA

Bush over-reacted, we should of just responded with a quick Arial response, not a all out war with Afghanistan and Iraq

staying also means losing, it's a lose\lose scenario - the only winning move was never to have played

a quick Arial attack in response would of cost the Afghan government billions and that would of caused them to police themselves to prevent that cost in the future, that was how it should of been handled

It reminds me of the ditty - They said it was a job that couldn't be done, but with a smile he went to it. He tackled that job that couldn't be done - and couldn't do it! [IMG]

these middle eastern wars are bankrupting this country, it's ironic, but the 9-11 attack has caused us to over-react and harm ourselves more then they could of ever dreamed of

in fact, we harmed ourselves financially so much, it probably ensures future attacks do happen

I think the only way to have meaningful victory is to install a strong benevolent government

The US does have a strong government with a strong military, that the citizens and the geography are why you can't invade. The Taliban is a bunch of scrubs, they will never win the war by straight up firefight. If the Taliban wins it will be because the US gets fed up with losing troops and money and quits.

You can not win a war by occupying a country. History proves that. Rome tried, the British tried, the Germans tried. All failed. Russia tried to occupy half of Europe, now they teeter on bankruptcy. The US occupies both Germany and Japan. We occupied Germany to protect them from Russia. Now Germans view Russia as their friend and the US as the enemy. Both countries used the US as their military and freed up their own money to develop their economies which competes with ours. It is only natural to resent any foreign troops in your country. It is counter productive.

The best option is defeat your enemy and leave them to address the aftermath. Hopefully they figure out fighting you is not a good idea and it doesn't happen again.

Please ensure to file a lawsuit against the "institution" that awarded you your Military Sciences degree. They have failed you drastically.
