I live in Midwest. In last several years highway 90 between Chicago and Rockford gained additional lane each way and was renewed. Then if you follow 90 north then you will find a long stretch of highway, between WI-IL border and Madison they are expanding the highway now. I can’t think of a highway in this area that is rough on your car.
Oregon and especially Washington are prosperous and I think they should be taking better care of their highways.
If the speed limit is 70 miles an hour and you decided to drive 55 in the left lane, then you are an @$$ for obstructing traffic. CA traffic law clearly state if you are holding up more than five cars because you are going slow, you will get a ticket if caught by the highway patrol.
But if the speed limit is 70 and I am going 75, then you are an @$$ if you try to force me to move by tailgating.
Yes, but remember if you cannot see his mirrors he cannot see you (though many trucks have cameras nowadays )
If you aren't prepared to go as fast as the traffic wants to go in the left lane, someone will tailgate you and create a less-than-safe situation. On the I-80 east of San Francisco, the left lane is typically going 80+ mph. If I'm keeping up and I'm being tailgated, I increase the distance to the car in front of me. It's a safety thing.
I will slide a bit to the side in a lane until I know he can see me if his mirrors are working and he's looking. The really annoying people are those on cruise control who ride along next to a car or line of cars. (You have to be stupid to ride next to someone.)
Any time you're thumbing your nose at "demon drivers," you're adding an additional unsafe element to the mix.
Not disagreeing with that. The same law is in Washington but defines slow as 5 miles an hour under the speed limit.
Passing a law doesn't change behavior, and the decent people didn't need a law applied to them anyway.
Interesting concept. Bad people disobey laws no matter what they are and good people don't need them because they do the right thing naturally. Lets all keep that in mind when we discuss other issues
When 911 is called they don't send out a lawyer to read the applicable law(s) to the criminal or law breaker. They send out people trained and authorized under the laws to carry guns and enforce the laws, and then the courts punish.
Other issues such as illegal aliens flainting our immigration laws and then committing other crimes after they get here
That's the way we should all do it. It's called the zipper merge, and it would halve the back-traffic at those places.
Any time you enable them and facilitate those super high speeds they are driving at, you are magnifying the cost of having demon drivers. If you move over and facilitate a 90 mile an hour driver, you are partly responsible for the extra carnage when they lose control at the turn up ahead.
Please relax! I agree that inconsiderate "Left Lane Creepers" are a pain & a hazard but then I ask myself if I'm really that much of a hurry and most of the time I'm not. The anger you feel and dangerous situation you create when tailgating usually has no effect on the "L.L.C." so why take the risk in the hope that you may "save" 5 - 10 minutes?
Maybe, but maybe not, too. There are a lot of guys who are pretty good at figuring out when and where they can speed.
