Don't quote facts to people that are scared of guns, it does no good. Politicians and the news ignore things that are difficult to resolve, even if they are far worse problems than guns.

In their simplistic ways of thinking, they see guns as scary things that can be demonized to scare others with, and it's much easier to attack an inanimate object than the super powerful medical companies.

The NRA is a 90lb weakling compared to the pharmaceutical and medical giants.

Guns aren't the problem...People being taught that they don't have to take personal responsibility for their actions is...Gang bangers under the age of 16 are more likely to use a gun than anyone because this judicial system doesn't try minors as adults except in special circumstances. Then when they turn 18 those records are sealed and expunged.

I don't have a problem with background checks...And it is a personal choice when doing a private sale to take the buyer to a gun shop and make sure they can pass a background check. As for people who are nuts and on certain meds...The form 4473 already has a line on their asking if you have been adjudicated mentally defective...or committed to a mental institution. (line 11.f. form 4473). I remember back when this system was implemented as part of the Brady Bill that Mr. Clinton stated in one of his speeches that over 100,000 people (memory here, not exact number) had been turned away from purchasing a firearm....So my question, ansd a lot of others, was where were the arrests.

Current law is that lying on the form 4473 can land you 1o years in prison...For each gun a convicted felon touched is 5 years, for each round of ammunition in their possession, is 5 years each. So I agree, let's start enforcing the laws on the books...Let's make prison a place noone wants to go...no more cable television in prison (it's not inhumane), no more exercise equipment, you can do pushups and such in your cell. Let's get tough on crime instead of making excuses for the criminal.

And if they were dead by knife, pills, rope, or any number of other methods, would that difference make it better in your eyes?

Ultimately all death is equal. The manner in which it is carried out is of no relevance.

Are they anymore likely to survive attempts at hanging themselves? Or laying down on a railroad track? Or jumping off a bridge?

Then perhaps you should be arguing in favor of better mental health care for those in need, instead of leaving them as is while simultaneously hoping that an absence of firearms will be sufficient to motivate them to not turn to suicide.

Considering the population of the U.S. and the stats you just cited, second hand smoke is by far a much deadlier killer than guns could ever be. Does your country ban smoking? I had not heard of that.

In this thread, we see the figure of 6,000 deaths this year. In another, we see that Chicago surpassed 1,000 murders for the year, last month. is that "third world" enough for ya'?
If we have a single city accounting for 17% of all murder in the entire nation, we need to take serious action regarding that city. Will we ever be allowed to come right out and say that we need to take serious action in regards to black on black violence? Hint: I'm not talking about black rifles.

You're a FDR real deal liberal? Didn't this liberal/socialst confiscate guns from U.S. citizens during WWII?

Well that's 'one point' on a graph. As the number of gun registrations has skyrocketed in recent years...is the number of gun homicides (per 100,000 people) going up or down? Tough question isn't it.

I've got an idea, lets pass some really strict gun laws for Illinois. Oh wait they already did. Carry on.

A major city with some of the most strict gun laws in the country accounts for 17% of all murders in the country.

Are these two things linked or is this just a very convenient coincidence...

We're 'Murica! Nobody's gonna take our guns!
Haha...a funny sentence packed with a lot of truth.
The American populous really doesn't give a sh*t about what other countries think of us or what we do. If you think we care, media has conned you. And you can take our guns when you pry them from our cold, dead hands.
On a side note, I would just love to dump a hand full of international pacifists, preferably white and unarmed in the middle of Detroit at about 2am.
I have learned internationals live to critique America and think they know anything without having ever stepped foot in this country.
We really, really, seriously don't care what you think. You are posting on your smart phone or computer on this forum that utilizes the internet...none of which you would have without us...in ENGLISH!!! Haha. Ever think about that?? Again, the USA rules! Don't be a hater;)

What the "Internationals" are disregarding is that the US is the most powerful Nation in the history of mankind.
Nowhere else on earth can a refugee from Viet Nam or China or Russia come and find support to get him through college, with a true chance of success.
America, and our Constitution is the most tumultuous "experiment" that humankind has ever attempted. There are things going on here, good and bad, that NO other Gov. in history has ever tolerated. What Nation gave birth to virtually every single corporation that has changed the world, and continues to?
Of course, this results in very nasty **it that happens on a spectacular scale, but the good outweighs the bad, and all of human kind benefits.
Don't cry to me about the cost of my Freedom.

I usually ignore foreigners when they spout off about the American gun culture. I don't care about foreign posters or their (*)(*)(*)(*) hole countries.

Actually, that guy is outta' line. The established method for attacking churches is with dynamite or gasoline.

guns don't kill very many people. people using guns to shoot bullets into other people do. and sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes its a bad thing. but we really don't care what the disarmed subjects of a untrusting foreign government think about our country. your opinion has no relevance to us

and your wet dream gun control schemes wouldn't change that

worse than that, FDR raped the tenth amendment and dishonestly created a federal gun control power out of a mutation of the commerce clause. we'd been far better off if FDR had croaked before his first term was over. Most of the mess this country is in can be traced directly back to his hatred of the constitution

Hey Joe, why are you praying with a gun in your hand?
