When I was in grammar school we celebrated flag day. In the very early grades we made flags with crayons and of course our moms displayed them on the ""Fridgerator". "Vestinghouse " as my mom would call it with her Eastern European accent. My parents thought us to revere the American flag. I learned early that we had the freedom to display our American in America. My parents reminded me that when their country ( Western Ukraine ) was occupied by Poland the polish terrorist government tried to crush the display of the Ukrainian flag. When the Russians invaded the little Soviet bastards made it illegal to display the Ukrainian flag. That Amercan flag symbolizes the freedoms that we still have, for now in this country if we can keep them. that is. The reverence that my parents showed for the American flag and the symbolism of our flag and the lesson of how me have rights here in America imprinted on me a immigrant kid the knowledge of how great this country is. We need to returned to not only displaying our flag but return to celebrating flag day. Anyone agree with my views as to how important celebrating the American flag is?
Many people in the USA now disrespect our flag because since the mid 60's the USA-hating, flag-burning hippies and their loony kids have infiltrated our schools, universities, and our politics.
Agree that is one reason but I think that the veration of our flag and the honoring of it's symbolism has gone down the drain has many reason. Almost not good.
