The Korean War is not a big deal to most Americans and was not a central concern at the time. We had conceded North Korea to the Communists so Truman was only interested in protecting South Korea. He was still considering running for another term and didn’t want a hot war during the campaign, nor did he want a victorious Douglas MacArthur in the race. He was even more worried about Taiwan, where he had pledged full support. A quiet stalemate was acceptable and when he decided to retire it would be unwise to become more aggressive.

Since the two-term limit became mandatory no President has been tempted to start a hot war at the end of his second term. god help us if someone causes serious trouble late in 2015.

Precisely, so everyone knows they can do something terribleto the US at the endof Obama'sadministration without causing a war. bullies hit people they don't think will hit back, so they get to smack someone daily and go years between real fights.
Bin Laden blew up the Cole with impunity in 2000 because Clinton was not only softer than a tissue but the lamest of lame ducks and fully disgraced. He thought that meant al Presidents could be equally weak then attacked in the first year of Bush's term and lost the governments of two Arabcountries in the process.
Obama is tougher but only with drones and small forces, so in 2016 every terrorist organization in the world can attack anything with no worries about the US. The coalition government in Britain looksequalloy weak, so Vladimir Putin is the only threat and he might pay the bills if you hit the right people.
    Beware!

Get real. The biggest danger to the US over the past 30 years is the US Government.

The Cole was in a place it shouldn't have been. That's what happens when you stick your nose where it doesn't belong.

bin Laden was dead two months after 9/11 nor did bin Laden attack on 9/11, only idiots think he did. And if the US weren't meddling all over the planet, nobody would attack the US. We reap what we sow.
