I'm just waiting for the liberals to decide laziness is a disability....

Exactly. The bleeding hearts miss that point. The point is to keep people from starving while they get their sh*t together and get a job, it's not meant to buy them lobster and steak for the rest of their lives.

Oh look, someone else who doesn't even know enough about the topic to realize how stupid and fake this meme is

You people really shouldn't get your information from memes. It makes you look like you aren't very well educated on the discussion topic at all.....

They did this in Florida. It actually reduced the number of people applying for benefits ---- the assumption was that they didn't bother to apply since they knew they wouldn't pass the drug testing. There were still about 10% or so of dumbasses who still took the test anyhow and failed, but for the most part it was a win/win because less people asked for benefits and it saved us the money we'd have wasted to drug test folks who knew they were going to fail anyhow.

From a media perspective, the attempt in Florida was a bit of a failure, although I personally thought it was a terrific idea. The primary basis for my support was quite simple, I have been drug tested for the right to make $3.55 an hour bagging groceries for a company that still drug tests their employees to this day. My wife has been randomly tested since 1989, its annoying but a worthy trade off "money in exchange for keeping off drugs and punching the time clock every day" <note, you had to do both to get paid.

So basically my sympathy level was and is a -0- for someone to complain that they had to keep off drugs to get free money. I don't remember the exact numbers but the media was pushing the numbers hard about the high % that passed the drug test after voluntarily taking it and extrapolating those volunteer #'s across the entire group, which was dead wrong.

In addition, I make a decent living, our household income is more than sufficient, and I absolutely LOVE lobster, its delicious, absolutely scrumptious, tasty, yummy. Yet for some reason despite the fact that I love it and I make a decent living I can't afford to buy lobster and rarely get it, actually I don't think i've had a single bite in 2019 so I personally don't give a dam about what someone who is getting free money really wants, especially if it involves lobster. If its was me food stamps would go back to the days where the "stamp" said One loaf bread, one pound cheese, 1 gallon milk, that made perfect sense to me back then and it still does today.

All anecdotes aside my opinion is simple, any efforts made by the gov't to curtail freebies by putting criteria on said freebies isn't going to get much opposition from me.

The whole 'food stamp' debacle (now called "EBT" system) is beyond corrupted and ruined. It's amazing how often the EBT cards are used to buy luxury food items, non-food items, alcohol, tobacco, etc. I remember way back in 1976 when Ronald Reagan was running for the presidency he said if elected, he'd get rid of the 'food stamp' program, but not even he was able to do it. We've got so many parasites sucking on all these welfare programs now that we never will....

I say feed all those that are hungry. I am not in a position to morally judge them.

Is it too late to get that Hawaii trip if I sign up for Food Stamps now?

The only program paying for acres not to be farmed is the CRP program. It’s to make environmentalists happy. Do you hate the environment now?

To understand this subject you need more understanding of poverty rates based on income vs real poverty rates which include cost of living. You are using the subjective, meaningless measure.

The state with the highest rate of actual poverty is California. Income really is a very poor measure of poverty. Someone in Mississippi with an income of say $25,000 may be able to live a middle class lifestyle. Someone in CA with the same income would be eating cold ramen noodles living in their car.

I was shown earlier in this thread that the income level measuring poverty is the same nationwide. It doesn't vary state to state, and I thought it did.

So yes, a household that brings in 25k in Mississippi can live better than a household making the same in Cali.

Wouldn't the poverty level be more accurately measured on a state to state level and factoring in cost of living? I suppose that would take more man-power to calculate and such.

Anyway, I was shown my error and admitted defeat. :confusion:

Sorry, was busy yesterday and haven’t read the entire thread yet. My apologies. Yes, I agree federal poverty measures are useless. One variable is sales tax. No sales tax on food in my state.

Your first reply to me was fine. You didn't attack me and I can't fault you for not reading through the whole thread. Time constraints don't allow for this all the time.

No sales tax on food? Where do you live?

Certainly what Trump is doing with the extended bailouts for the farmers. These same people went nuts when Bush Jr and Obama helped the auto industry. It is pathetic how they glom onto anything he says, and ironically made fun of Obama supporters calling him their Messiah yet they treat Trump in the very way.

Tribalism runs very deep. I find myself defending "my" side with the same fervor as well. The hypocrisy from the right from the time Obama took office and now is stunning though. Where are the tea-partiers?

More this month, but in the form of gift cards. I used to get toys.

What did you eat? I could MAYBE get by on that if I ate strictly beans and rice. But then I would have no milk. Coffee would be off the menu. Most jobs have a coffee pot in the break room though.
