Actually, I believe he had a minority of total Republicans on his side at election time, especially from the Republicans in congress. They may have voted for him but never supported him for the first two years which answers the question, "why did the Republicans do nothing when they had the chance".

Progressives are 8% of the electorate, the median of the Democrat party has stayed where it has been since 2010. They aren't radicalising. Intersectional race baiting doesn't fair well among independents.

Rasmussen is an outlier poll. When it comes to Trump's approval rating, Rasmussen is generally six to ten points higher than other polls.

If you go through the broken methodology of the liberal polling you'd see its about 5-7% lower than reality by design. Manufactured liberal polls probably aren't a very good indicator of anything, but then again, how many liberals these days actually live in reality anyway?

 

The only thing impressive about the 53% number is that it is off by a spread of about 15% compared to all the others.
