Whether it be Clinton or Trump, the legacy of Bill Clinton and his vision of America would continue. Trump is a friend of the Clintons. Bear in mind, his epiphany of what was wrong with the left didn't happen until a day AFTER Bill Clinton talked Trump into running. Like it or not Trump is not what the media is trying to portray.

Two Bush's, Two Clinton's, yes the possibility exists. Of course we had father and son before in John Adams, 2nd and later John Quincy Adams, the 6th. FDR and Teddy Roosevelt were cousins.

The strange thing about this election is that neither Trump or Clinton are well liked by the majority of the electorate. Clinton is like only by her party members and Trump only by around 60% of the GOP. Independents which make up approximately 40-45% of the electorate give each potential nominee a 60% unfavorable rating.

But independents do not pick the nominees, the two parties do. But it is said they do decide national elections. So this election may come down to those independent voters deciding whom they hate the least. If it does come down to that, I would say this election cycle is a failure of our two party system.

Trump is media savvy and knows how to use the media to get what he wants. I do agree with you and back in May I talked to some Republicans who though Trump entered the race only to help Hillary win. I do not think even Trump thought he would be at the top of the heap in his endeavor.

Mah ... I cannot be that sure about Trump's expectations and real intentions. May be he wanted to generate a shock in the Republican party, may be he wanted to create an open field for Hillary. But when such a competitive guy decides to take part to a race, I doubt he just accepts to participate ... he tries and win the race.

Is his real purpose to build a popular support, may be not to take over the GOP, but to prepare a second presidential campaign as independent in 2020?

I agree on the competitiveness. I doubt a 2020 run.

If Clinton is the nominee, then I believe he will win. If it's against Bernie, Trump loses.

He didn't need to be in 1980. Times have changed.

And, I would replace "crude and belligerent" with 'brutally honest'.

Unfortunately there is a good chance. Either that or midway through after winning the nomination he will quit due to "health" issues.
