Trump Organization Is Charged in 15-Year Tax Scheme

A prosecutor accused the company of a “sweeping and audacious illegal payments scheme” in compensating a top executive, Allen H. Weisselberg.

The Trump Organization, the real estate business that catapulted Donald J. Trump to tabloid fame, television riches and ultimately the White House, was charged Thursday with fraud and tax crimes in connection with what prosecutors said was a 15-year-long scheme to compensate a top executive off the books.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office, which has been conducting the investigation, also accused the executive, Allen H. Weisselberg, Mr. Trump’s long-serving and trusted chief financial officer, of avoiding taxes on $1.7 million in income. He faced grand larceny, tax fraud and other charges.

 

Weisselberg owes less than Sharpton.

I think that the $1.7 million was the amount of taxes evaded. The income amount would have been much more. Problem is that white collar crime laws, many written by white collar criminals, are usually not that tough. Sounds as if he may get a minimal sentence and possibly a fine.

And, if every company that has been convicted of a tax violation went out of business, we'd have to go back to an agricultural rural economy.

But, there is a lot more...and, as they say, it ain't over til the fat lady sings.

 

So the big indictment against Trump’s business that had been frantically anticipated for years and years boils down to certain forms of taxable compensation allegedly being improperly classified? Yep, big one there!

 

When Vance convened a grand jury, New York prosecutors expected the case to take up to six months to analyze.

Charges were filed 90 days later.

I am leaning toward a clear and serious case of fraud.

 

Owning and fraud are different.

Weisselberg should have done what Sharpton did and set his office and all the records in it on fire. Jewish lightening is very popular in NYC.

 

Sharpton axtually owes much less than thaf. But again, owing doesn’t mean you committed fraud. In fact it mostly implies the opposite.

 

How many thousands of companies give bonuses to their employees while trying to minimize tax consequences? I guess a lot of them do but this one had the Trump name attached to it so call in the IRS and the FBI. Politically targeted investigation of a nothing burger.

The grand jury hasn't ended, they have I think 4 more months to go.

they didn't say it would take 6 months to 'find a crime', they said the grand jury investigation was to last 6 months. The panel was convened in May and will sit three days a week for six months.

They could find a crime, and more crimes, at any time during the course of that investigation. The grand jury hasn't ended.

In case you think this is 'partisan', the Clintons were thoroughly raked over the coals with whitewater.
