Do you really believe that Iran stopped development of a bomb? The sanctions were killing them and they needed money bad. the 'deal' gave them some breathing room and cash. That's what their nuclear blackmail was all about anyway. What if they get a bomb, what do they do with it? There are nukes all over the world today but how many have been used? Nobody dares to pull that trigger, not even the US and Russia.

Let's see what's going on. Back to the 1978 iranian revolution what happend at that time was that Shah was practically exploiting the west by his power due to the oil and Iran's high national growth at that time. So what did the west do? They ambushed Shah their own ally and pushed back Iran to religious superstitions and made Iran consumer again and not producer. So presence of ayatollahs in Iran is in the best interest of USA because unlike Shah, they can't process Iran's oil and have to sell it and buy other things by it's income from the west and their spurious animosity toward Israel is making the jews more powerful and seem more oppressed in the region. Until a month ago that Iranian people was pushing their government unbelievably hard and suddenly US's interest endangered due to endangering ayatollahs. And they did the one thing that all Iranians having whatever mainstream they want hate the most and that's the threat to their nationalism which they are so proud of. Why do you think that trump is threatening to take out Iran's cultural sites? Because US wants to gather Iranians around their flag because US wants to rescue Iran's government from Iran's people. And the fact is that Khamenei traded Soleimani's life for that end.

Tom Luongo does a good job of assembling a chronology of what had happened so far. Some snippets:

.....when you realize that Soleimani was in Baghdad to deliver Iran’s opening terms for a negotiated peace with Saudi Arabia, this attack was a blunder.

When you further realize that Soleimani was there at Trump’s behest with Iraqi Prime Minister Mahdi as broker, this attack looks like patently insane.

....Soleimani was in Baghdad to begin the peace process, again, at Trump’s request. He was uniquely positioned within the Iranian government to handle said negotiations because of his position as head of the IRGC Quds Forces.

If he brought these terms to the table, the militias and proxies he trained and tacitly commands would take them far more seriously than if they were brought by President Hassan Rouhani.

....A New York Times article detailed the situation in the White House in the days leading up to Trump’s decision. It reads like a Pentagon whitewash of its role in creating the atmosphere which led to Soleimani’s death.

It paints the picture of a president sinking into madness as the ‘attacks’ on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad unfolded.

It tries to deflect all the blame onto Pompeo and Vice President Mike Pence.

....But the big takeaway from this article isn’t just that the Pentagon is looking to deflect blame from Defense Secretary Mark Esper and CIA Director Gina Haspel onto Trump.

The big takeaway from this article is the Pompeo/Pence narrative of Soleimani was imminently primed to attack U.S. diplomatic targets was complete fiction.

.....Unwritten by the Times but lurking between the words is who was really behind this narrative, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It’s clear over the past six months Netanyahu couldn’t accept the idea of peace breaking out around him. He consistently pushed the envelope of Israel’s belligerence into Iraq over the opening of the Iraq/Syria border crossing.

Now the Saudis were wavering? This cannot stand. War with Iran must happen.

This is the most likely scenario that pushed Trump into this action with Pompeo, Esper and Haspel feeding him a steady diet of, at best, misleading information. Trump then does what Trump does best when the game gets too hard to figure out.

    He filps the table.

Netanyahu worked so hard to manipulate events and people to get to that point. He needs a win back home to show voters he is the man to bring Israel salvation through the studious application of American exceptionalism.

Now, that he’s done so, he is abandoning Trump after pushing him into the pit.

    •••••••••••••••••

Luongo establishes this chronology as a dissection of why the Europeans have been lukewarm, at best, in supporting Trump on this one.

    An interesting read.

If the above is true, and it's increasingly seeming like it may well be, could this be why Trump has not held a press conference on this matter? Is he waiting for an Iranian response that will make it all a moot point?

It's been emerging from several sources over the past few days. Luongo posted a pic of the Iraqi PM' s statement with his article. Accompanying the pic:

The information that #Iran Qassem Soleimani had an appointment with the PM in Baghdad and came to #Iraq to meet him the next day with established appointment, following a request of Trump for mediation, has been read to all MPs today by the #Iraq/i PM himself.

It's no secret that Iran has been trying to put together a regional security apparatus involving the Gulf countries through its HOPE initiative (HOrmuz Peace Endeavor). Also no secret that Iran and Saudi Arabia have been talking since the successful Yemeni attack on Saudi oil facilities.

LOL. Do a search for "Soleimani on diplomatic mission". You get lots of links of Pompeo denying it at a press conference. Obviously he wouldn't deny something that wasn't brought up.

On the link below, he denies it even though the article states that "The notion that Soleimani was on some sort of peace mission was first floated by Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, who reportedly said at a Sunday session he was scheduled to meet with Soleimani and discuss a message from Saudi Arabia regarding possible agreements in the region."

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/po...mani-diplomatic-mission-as-iranian-propaganda

So Pompeo is calling the Iraqi PM a liar.

So, no, you don't have any links.
    "Reportedly said".

Don't be obtuse. The Luongo article I posted about and gave a link to has an image of the damn statement, though not in English, so, oh yeah, you got me there!!

So, since you're batting 1000, riddle me this. Why would Fox news, a Trump-friendly outlet, say that the Iraqi PM said it?

Obviously, the "source" is the Iraqi PM. Any link reporting on it is going back to that source, which Fox confirms in its article.

Ah - you cannot show us the "report" where the Iraqi PM supposedly said what you claimed.
    Thanks.
    Read carefully:
"Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, who reportedly said..."
Fox did not say the PM said it, Fox said he is reported to have said it.

    Show me the "report".

WTH dude?? I just told you the image of the speech is in Luongo's article. Copy it and do a machine translation if it makes you happy.

Qassem Soleimani, the Iranian Quds Force commander who was killed in a US drone attack in Baghdad on Friday, was in Iraq to negotiate a de-escalation in tensions with Saudi Arabia, according to the Iraqi prime minister.

Adel Abdul Mahdi, Iraq’s caretaker prime minister, told his parliament on Sunday that President Trump called him to ask for help in mediating with Iran after the American embassy in Baghdad was attacked.

    Thanks for the article Woogs.
    .
If true the treachery is unbelievable. That Trump would set up a diplomatic appointment for peace, and then assassinate them makes one wonder if Trump himself was being set up because it's going to destroy him. Was he fed false information - maybe by Netanyahu and encouraged by Pence and Pompeo? Seems probably.

Apparently the Iraqi PM talked with the Washington Post and is reported to have said, “He came to deliver me a message from Iran, responding to the message we delivered from Saudi Arabia to Iran,” the Iraqi prime minister said, according toWashington Post.

The WaPo is a paywall site, so I haven't seen it, but the link is in the above quote.

I posted that information yesterday on two threads, but I didn't know that Trump had set up the negotiations - and that's what freaks me out. I heard it on Israeli news live, since Steven Ben-Nun has quite a few connections in Israeli Intelligence and in the area and is very informative. I trust him implicitly.

He said the one who first stated it was cut off the air and he feared he would be too, so this is why I didn't mention my source.

Whether Trump had asked for the negotiations or not, he had to have known what Soleimani was doing as he notified the Saudis and Iraqis before the strike, although in the Iraqi case it was only minutes prior.

Bro Woogs - You can lead Donkeys to TRUTH but you can't make them Perceive IT.
............................................................................................................ They would rather Choke !

    Iraqi Prime Minister Says
Qassem Soleimani Was In Iraq To Discuss De-escalating Tensions

between Iran and Saudis' when he was killed - and claims Trump had asked for help mediating talks after embassy attack
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...scalating-tensions-Saudis-killed-PM-says.html

From The Article: UK Daily Mail
    1. Adel Abdul Mahdi, Iraq’s caretaker prime minister, told his parliament on Sunday that President
...Trump called him to ask for help in mediating with Iran after the American embassy in Baghdad
....was attacked. - US strike on Soleimani was a 'political assassination'

    2. Abdul Mahdi claimed that Soleimani was due to meet with him on the same day that he was
....killed by a US drone near the Baghdad airport early on Friday

    3. The outgoing Iraqi leader says that Soleimani was supposed to bring him Iran's response to
....a Saudi proposal for de-escalating regional tensions

    ............................................. ----------------------------------

So may the World take Note: This is what American Diplomacy has devolved too. Invite negotiations
Then MURDER the people who come to talk - The Diplomacy of Malignant, Murdering Psychopaths

But what are we to Expect from people who JOKE & BRAG of how they "Lie, Cheat, & Steal"
But how does this Reflect upon the people who would rather believe the Absurdities spewed from
the mouths of self admitted Liars than to boldly face the uncomfortable TRUTH. That they are simply
Cogs in the wheel of some "Glorious American Experiment"

.............. There is NO reasoning with such Willfully Ignorant Sheep
