the Allies didn't have death squads or death camps

they didn't choose to murder millions of innocent civilians.

Yeah, sure - "he's a sadistical loon that longer observe any rationale".

Never bought it then and I don't buy it anymore now. That's just not how things work.

Yes, they did, on both accounts. If they didn't killed millions (the Russians did) it's certainly not for lack of trying, even going as far as splitting the atom in the process.

    Yep.

The chems themselves could have been used by one of the islamist "rebel" groups that are supported by the US, Israel and the Sauds, such as Al-Nusra. Common enemies, like Assad, makes for strange bedfellows - besides, the US already went to bed with far uglier in the recent past.

So to force the US to stay a little, someone decide to pin a chem attack on Assad, so the public opinion goes all FOX news in the US... then next thing you learn, the US decided to stay a while longer in Syria. How convenient.

If he was such a stupid prick as much as using a klaxon weapon in a war he is winning, Assad wouldn't have been able to hang to power given the array of forces leagued against him. Think - there's no rationale whatsoever in the angle you offer. It's better to have a deranged mind than a dead one.

Hello, Ronnie? What about the Russian purges? What about the US concentration camps for Japanese Americans? What about the two atom bombs?

Are you ****in' kidding me? If that's the case it's going to be real short.

Strange thing about wars. They always have collateral damage. First no one knows where this gas came from. It would not be the first time someone has created a situation and blamed it on their foes to gain public support. With Trump calling for a pull out it seems strange to me that Assad and the Russians would try to delay or stop that. I hope a lot of investigating is done before any escalation is enacted.

Wars in the Middle East are almost always tribal and never end without an iron fisted strong man in charge. Tribes are always looking for revenge. Syria has few resources so why would anyone want it to begin with. The only reason Russia is involved is to achieve stability on their border. I say let them have it. It will be nothing but a finical drain that they can not afford.

I think the US will just nuke another military airport or a military base with tamahawks. That’s about it.

I’d support bombing military assets of Syria. But no boots on the ground.

Assad proved himself to be a ruthless prick many times since the beginning of this conflict.

Russians, Brits, Yanks - all allies, have indulged in acts of genocide and abuse, during, before and sometimes even after WWII. The Brits alone may have caused the death of 10 millions Indus. The US was founded on the abuse and attempted genocide of either the red or the black man. How do you think these interned Japanese in US would have ended if Japan was on the verge of winning the war?

I don't know in which alternate reality you live in, but in the one that matters you can't claim the moral high ground without a solid dose of hypocrisy and/or ignorance. You don't have beautiful clothes - you are buck-naked and everybody can see it.

No offense, but I think you know precisely dick about what's going on in Syria. Now you're trying to peddle your slogans on people that knows more than you do? Ha ha ha.

Thanks, but I'll pass, in any case. "Fool me once..."

This is at least the second time this sort of incident and reaction have taken place. It basically goes like this:

We're leaving Syria very soon. We're defeating ISIS and then we're out of there!

What's the point of that? Why waste our munitions destroying some of Asshat's assets? Just makes weapons dealers more money and wastes US resources. I say we either stick to the plan of leaving Syria to the dogs as previously announced or finally sack up and take Asshat out, Russia be damned. However, the second option would be very costly and unpopular, especially with all of the time that Asshat and friends have had to warp minds and views through propaganda in his favor, and of course Syria would then be even more of a chaotic and rubblized mess than it is today, and the next wave of terrorists might well rise from those ashes as ISIS apparently did in post-W-regime-change Iraq.

Crap or get off that pot already. We can't be talking about leaving, then not leave when something like this happens, but also not do anything meaningful to address the situation.

Frankly, this whole thing seems very contrived, like a direct response to Trump announcing his intention to get us out of Syria. It's like an attack or claims of an attack were set up somehow specifically to manipulate Trump personally and probably the general population both domestic and abroad to be more supportive of our remaining in Syria.

    Also, screw Russia.

Russia warns of 'most serious consequences' if US strikes Syria over alleged chemical attack on its citizens

Russia is warning the U.S. against any “military intervention” in Syria over the government's alleged chemical attack against civilians this weekend, saying any such response would be “unacceptable” and lead to the “most serious consequences”.

The foreign ministry in Moscow also says in a statement on its website that allegations of the chemical attack are “fabricated,” suggesting the claims were invented by rebel forces and the Syrian Civil Defense known as the White Helmets.

“It is necessary to warn again that military intervention under invented and fabricated pretexts in Syria, where at the request of the lawful government there are Russian military personnel, is absolutely unacceptable and can lead to the most serious consequences,” the statement reads. “The aim of these false speculations, that have no basis, is to shield the terrorists and the irreconcilable radical opposition, who reject a political solution, at the same time while trying to justify possible armed strikes from outside.”

    ----------

The middle paragraph in particular is something I want to address. It corresponds to my impression that this chemical attack story was set up to manipulate Trump and all of us to avoid having us leave Syria as originally planned and announced. Alternatively, it may just be the worst sort of disinformation and a big bluff that we ought to call Russia out on, assuming the attack is genuine. It's hard to be sure in our position, so it's up to those with access to the intelligence to know where the truth lies to determine which is the case. If this attack is genuine, then let's see a meaningful response that takes Assad down and puts those cheeky Russians in their place. If it is somehow false, well, then it comes down to the details of what was falsified how and by whom and to what end.
