It's doubly tragic when our country acts all preachy toward other countries and our people like to claim we are the greatest. It's triply tragic when the same people claiming this (Republican voters and those the elect) are the ones most responsible for these failings of ours, since they consistently oppose spending on domestic services and infrastruture out of phony concerns about deficit spending and an unreasoning desire to lower tax rates on the wealthy, who already pay less than they should as the income and wealth gap only grows and grows.

yes, but they still goto same school as everyone else, so it show parenting in kids education are important. Japanese/Korean/Chinese high school are memorization, here high school has AP courses.

US patent filling still the top, so does R&D etc, it shows US grad school still in top. school such as MIT etc.

 

The purpose of the tariffs is not to pull these jobs back to America. The purpose of the tariffs is to get China to drop restrictive tariffs on American goods. He also wants more protection for our intellectual properties. There is no way the American work force will ever be competitive with these low paying labor markets. Nor would we want to be. We already have the best unemployment numbers we have seen in decades. He is pushing for fair trade, nothing more. A fair trade policy will open the markets for our existing products and produce more good paying jobs in those industries.

The reason Asian students are typically at the top of the class in US schools is discipline. Asian parents set high standards for their children and make sure they comply.

20 years ago US students ranked as the best educated students in the world. Now they are in the bottom half. These students from 20 years ago are the ones doing the R&D and filing for new patents. If the education rankings hold any water, you won't see that in the future. In fact at present many of these R&D positions at major American corporations are held by foreigners.

As an example of how good the American education system is. I had a neighbor who transferred to Ireland with his job. His high school aged daughter was always one of the top people in her class. She was in the AP program and had taken many AP classes. When she went to Ireland she had to take a placement test. After the test was examined, they determined she needed to be held back 2 years. The reason was her math and science skills were pathetic.

These math and science skills in American schools are a joke. The reason is American schools are built to push kids through and not challenge them. Because math and science are hard to teach and bring down the overall grade average of the student body, they are fluffed over.

 

Germany has it's problems as well. The country is filling up with violent, uneducated Muslim immigrants. Germany has no energy. The energy producing nations could put them on their knees in a week by shutting off the energy flow. However, the biggest problem Germany has is the median age for a German is 46 years old. They will soon be forced to open the gates for more immigrants or to put it plainly die. They are about to face a huge influx of retirees. Germany has a very generous "Social Code" for their retirees. Without workers to pay into this system, there will be some tough decisions to make.

 

not 20 years, many young engineer/scientist contribute to a lot patent etc. also many foreigner PHD contribute too.
like I said many time before parenting is important in education. there is a reason there are AP course, its for those who qualify.

American education has always been dire.

Compare your system to Japan.
After a day at state school a Japanese child then goes to a second fee paying school for an equal amount of hours.
By the time he graduates he has done twice as many school hours as your child.
Tuition hours wise, the equivalent of 15+ extra university degrees by the age of 18.
With 12 hour school days, a British public school student will have done almost the same.

 

I thought you were on to something there for a while. But when I started looking at the fortune 500 companies I found that either they didn't sell things needed by China (CVS or Walmart for example) or they already had factories in China building for the Chinese market. I'm not sure anyone is taking into account the American companies producing in China for China consumption.

While they have forced the US companies into partnerships, you don't think they will just give those businesses back do you? And if they did, do you think the US would bring those jobs back to the US then export the stuff back to China?

 

Just sit back and watch. This will work, as all Trump's other economic proposals have. And after that, the anti-Trump rhetoric will just switch to another issue and nothing more will be said about this issue.

They had the largest industrial base and the most national wealthtill we came along and dwarfed the euros industrailly

But international test scores of high school students in math and science rank America at the bottom

And foreign enrollment at the US colleges has benn steadily growing
