It obviously went right over your head but the various organizations both public and private which provide food to those who qualify or ask completely disprove your claim that 40 million (13% of the population) are going hungry. Most of my friends have the same story. Anybody willing to work can support themselves, even if it's not a lavish lifestyle. It just takes a little discipline. My 25 year old is supporting himself, his wife, and baby without help. I hooked him up with a good used truck when he joined the military, but the rest is him.

I enjoy helping people who are exercising discipline and spend within their means. I have no sympathy for able bodied people who sit around and expect handouts.

How about the friend of mine who was caught in an abusive relationship - she is a hair dresser - finally managed to get out of the relationship - he sued for everything (not just half) she managed to get out of that then finally got a place of her own and was diagnosed with a brain tumour

Even less do they realize how fortunate they've been, how many times the hurtling truck went by or the cancer did not manifest. People don't become successful without working hard and many people are poor because they are lazy, no doubt, but the apparent conservative doctrine I see here; that poverty is entirely due to being a moral degenerate, or stupid, or both, is not a right way of looking at things either.
