    Even less.

Prices have been dropping for 10 years long before now and tariffs.

    Again
China agrees to buy 5 million tons of US soybeans after talks in Washington

China has agreed to resume purchases of U.S. soybeans following talks Thursday between President Trump and Beijing's top trade negotiator, Vice Premier Liu He. It will start off by purchasing 5 million metric tons.

Cattle, chickens, cheese, eggs. If Obamacare making Widgets and the market becomes overblown with widget makers I move to a different product.

He got the market open he wanted to get open and the dairy farmers wanted to get opened.

Now Trump is crowing that he saved the soybean farmers.. He's like the arsonist who starts a fire, puts it out and takes a bow for his heroism.

Can't wait to see your evidence enough farmers have filed for bankruptcy that food will be scarce.

Or can I rely on you making another laughable assumption you can't prove again?

Americans have lousy long term memory. Do you recall the wreck-heap economy Obama inherited from the previous REPUBLICAN administration, with over 700,000 Americans losing their jobs every month? Do you think you or anyone else could have dealt with that crisis any faster or better than Obama did? I don't.

There weren't 700K people losing their jobs a month...but with that said I certainly remember the fin crisis Obama took over, after two years of a Dem controlled Congress. Yes, I do think that someone else could have handled it better, and turned it around much faster....as we saw when the Dems finally started losing power two years later.

What a simplistic thing to say. I've already 'splained to you how GDP, and the economy in general, don't work that way. I guess some people are too invested in their parties politics to consider that they might not understand what they think they do.

You said that. I didn't. Farmers voted for Trump. Then Trump destroyed the economic agreements that kept farmers successful. I simply voice that fact, and for you and Trump sycophants like you, I'm the problem. I care about farmers. I care about the shrinking middle class. I care about making America a place where all Americans have hope for a better life--not just the wealthy ones. Trump loves only three things: money, power & himself. He has no feeling for or concern about you or me or any other Americans. I'm just stating the facts, and those facts are out there in public view for anyone and everyone to see. After two years of Trump in the Oval Office, they're even more visible than ever. Because voters chose to ignore the warning signs during the campaign & on election day, they saddled us with this corrupt, self-serving, inept misfit for at least 4 years--a tragic low point in American history.

Have you read anything in this thread. Hell, you could even infer the answer to your question from the title. Anyway, we are discussing agriculture markets.

Actually, they work in exactly that manner. Unfortunately the American Worker is beneath the contempt of the Crazed Left Wing Intersectionalitists who are sold out to the Chinese Communists.

No actually they don't work like that at all. GDP is only one of many metrics that measure the health of the economy. To posit that decreasing a trade deficit would always yield an increase in GDP is kindergarten thinking. Again, this has already been explained to you.

Yes it does. It works exactly that way.
Now you are running from your own point, which was that the Trade Deficit does not subtract from GDP to "well, GDP isn't that important"! I graciously accept your concession.
    Is ALWAYS TRUE.

The balance of trade is one of the key components of a country's gross domestic product (GDP) formula. GDP increases when there is a trade surplus: that is, the total value of goods and services that domestic producers sell abroad exceeds the total value of foreign goods and services that domestic consumers buy. If domestic consumers spend more on foreign products than domestic producers sell to foreign consumers – a trade deficit – then GDP decreases.

The standard formula for GDP can be written as follows:

GDP = private consumption spending + investments + government spending + (exports - imports)
Repeating erroneous claims does not magically make them truthful statements.

A trade surplus ALWAYS increases GDP
A trade deficit ALWAYS decreases GDP

This is why the World is quite happy to run an $860 BILLION surplus against the United States and is screaming in protest at Trump's efforts to reduce this subtraction against our GDP.

You and the Left support foreign strangers at the expense of the US worker.
Trump is working FOR The American Worker.

China bought most of the us soybean crop. Trump hurt farmers in August and now he's playing the hero.south Carolina alone stood to lose 187 million not to mention the port for shipping. He is an effing moron and he is working the poor saps who worship him.

Are you serious? You can't be but I'll take the bait anyway. The ONLY way your simplistic view works is if none of the terms in the equation are related. But we know that isn't reality, don't we? In fact our economy is a complex system.
In your model all we'd need to do to maximize GDP would be to import nothing LOL!!! Who knew economics was so trivial.

All of you childish insults just make you look like the anti trump fanatic that you are

We are dealing with a communist dictatorship that wants to dominate the world economically and militarily

If china buys the protein it needs somewhere else that creates a shortage

Third party nations are not going to go hungry just to help china win a trade war with America
