Why are so many shows now rated MA?

Defiance and Dominion are 2 shows I like to watch. But they both now have so many sexually explicit scenes, that I end up turning them off.

It's reached the point where finding something without that rating is becoming harder to find.

    What do you think?

Standard cable is trying to compete with premium cable for shows that have "buzz." They, rightly or wrongly, presume that violence and sexuality is part of the attraction of these shows. A G rated 'Game of Thrones' showing at 8 PM on a network would probably have not attracted much buzz or viewers other than genre types. The same with 'True Blood.' A G rated True Blood probably wouldn't have made it through the first season.

As far as 'Dominion' goes, I saw the pilot episode and it was just too bad to continue watching. 'Defiance" is better, but the sexual situations in that show just seem odd considering how crazy the premise of the show is to begin with. That show could have done just fine as a G or PG type show.

    I agree 100%!

On the other end of the spectrum, just watched the awesome season finale of Longmire. No matter where I turn I can't find out if Season 4 will air or only be available on download.
