I really don't know where every soldier lives, or base they'll be deployed to. All I know is they won't be fighting Obama's war of necessity

Trump has turned the Democrats into War Mongers.... it's amazing to watch them lock step stand against anything/everything Trump does, even if it's undeniably a good thing like getting out of unnecessary wars.

So Trump is gonna bring every single troop member home? If not he is still continuing the wars and the occupation from wars. How does this exclude him from being a warmonger?

Perhaps a sort of nebulous statement I made. What I meant was that the whole idea of pulling out of Afghanistan has problems.

Of all the wars we have engaged since 9/11, Afghanistan is the only one that fits into my definition of a "right" war. That is, while we took offensive action, the war was, in its essence, an act of self defense. (The war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria was a "necessary" war, but its legitimacy has an asterisk next to it. And that asterisk is that our own actions in Iraq and Syria enabled the rise of our enemies, creating the necessity.)

I would love to pull all our troops out of Afghanistan.

That said, we can reliably expect that, after our troops are out, the taliban will use force to topple the present government. They will once again set up a government based upon their extreme Islamic beliefs, as it was before. Now we could just say, "So what? It's their country, their culture." I could agree with that except for one problem. The Afghan taliban is still just as closely allied with AQ as they were in the years before 9/11. Nothing has changed in that relationship. The taliban leadership has never disavowed AQ; they have refused to. And, AQ leadership has expressed its loyalty and support of the Afghan taliban leadership. So the problem is that the two are still married to each other. If the present Afghan government falls (and it will without our support), AQ will once again enjoy the protection and support of a host country.

The taliban and AQ share the same radical Islamic beliefs. There really is no difference in their beliefs. The only difference is in their mission. The taliban's goal is to set up an Islamic nation in Afghanistan. AQ has a world view, not just Afghanistan. AQ is radical Islam's expeditionary force, so to speak. All these years later, AQ is active in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, multiple African nations - Somalia, Libya, Tunisia, and Mali. There is even a radical Islamic guerilla group in the jungles of the Philippines that is aligned with AQ. It goes by different names in different places, but they all swear fealty to AQ leadership and inspiration. ISIS was a "breakaway" from AQ, but cut from the same cloth.

And, of course, we remember what AQ's expeditionary force did to us.

    So what do we do?

This is what I meant when I said not to celebrate too quickly. This is what I meant when I said there are problems here.

They are being repositioned to Saudi Arabia or Syria, some homecoming. It really shows how much you understand a contract the military has with its soldiers..You really believe the rhetoric that Trump spews? Wow, he's like a bidet of youthful spewing of da shyt..

Yes, so therefore we are speaking about the war in Afghanistan. That was started by Bush Jr. Then continued and 'formally ended' by Obama, and the resultant side 'mission' is continued by Trump.

And I agree fully. Get out of Afghanistan. Leaving will only leave the locals and those groups to fight it out. No worry about any countries trying to step in an fill the void.

Since May we've increased our troop presence in the middle east by over 14,000. Also, we currently have 4000 more troops in Afghanistan than we did in 2016, so even if we bring home 2000 from Afghanistan(not just move them to another foreign country, but bring them home), we would still be above our troop presence in Afghanistan from when Trump first took office.

I agree that we should bring the troops home, but I believe saying it isn't enough, we need to actually do it.

I think those were other troops. How about Australia sending 2000 troops to Syria to protect the Kurds in our stead?

Its a different situation altogether when you topple the government of a nation. You cant just pull out without first creating a competent government so the nation doesnt descend back into chaos. Obama pulled out without building a working government. I say it was not working because it was heavily dependent on american forces to keep the peace. The new government most be totally self sufficient and independent before the troops pull out. Obama knew this and pulled out intentionally to create a power vacuum for ISIS/ISIL to fill. Yes, Obama used Iraq as the womb for ISIS, no doubt about that! Obama was a turncoat and ISIS founder. Yes, I do not handle Obama with kid gloves like the liberals love to do.
