In a speech about US foreign aid, Senator Rand Paul R-KY asked the question, "Where does the insanity end?" Anyone know the answer? Why do we allow our govt to send our hard earned tax dollars to these countries that hate us? Why don't we use that money to fund domestic programs and pay down the US debt?
We spend less than 1% of our budget on foreign aid and a third of that goes to Israel and Egypt to try and maintain peace. I highly doubt that our foreign aid is bankrupting us and it certainly wouldn't even make a small dent in out national debt.
1% of our budget to countries that hate us? Why? 1% to a country that imprisoned the Dr who helped the US capture bin Laden? Why? 1% to countries who support Islamic extremists? Why? 50 billion USD is a lot of money that could go a long way with things like healthcare, veterans programs, educational benefits, etc. Why are we giving it to govts that want us destroyed?
I have a better question, what would you think of a man who is in debt taking food out of his kids mouths to give to the gangsters down the street with only the hope that they bribe money will keep them from killing each other? You'd think he was irresponsible and reckless. We are BROKE. 1% is too much when we are trillions in debt. You can't sell the government shaving welfare that goes to Americans if you are going to keep throwing money into an unresolvable situation in the Middle East. Seriously, at what point in human history has that region been stable?
Let's be honest ... if that extra money was a proposal to give the spook agencies or DARPA extra funds it would have gone through.
