We will be fine as long as we are doing better than the Democrats.

dixon, it would take 23 blog pages to show all the posts where you prove you hate gays....while cloaking it in "procreation" and "Constitutionality".

But in the end, the cool thing is.....you're going to lose. Nobody, not even the Republican leadership just a few nutters in the GOP, wants to be the associated with bigots.

BTW, for all the polls dixion cites....he'll never cite them (even from the same source) that shows younger people are more open to gay rights....and how the old ones who don't...are dying off.

Personally? No. But is it a principle to many conservatives? Yes. I do not get to dictate to the opposition what is or is not a principle anymore than I would allow the opposition to dictate to me what I principle is.

    Principles are subjective.

Sorry- but I don't find discrimination to be a "principle". It's bigotry- plain and simple. People can say what they want, but that's the reality of it.

I do not find discrimination or bigotry to be "good"- not in any sense of the word.

Are you referring to the discrimination between the married and unmarried, or is it only certain discrimination against particuliar groups that you have a problem with?

There's little hope for wanton bigots; we'll have to go around them (somehow).

Then why did you say it was good to see someone stick by his "principles"?

In this case, it's most certainly not.

I didn't. What I did say was "I have a begrudging respect for those who stand their ground on the principles that they believe in... even if I believe their principles are wrong."

Thank you for demonstrating the subjectivity of perception though.

And you left out this part:

I'd say I perceived what you said just fine. It's never good to know something like that in this particular case.

Or let them die off.....the polling shows the preponderance of anti-gay bigots....are old. Younger people by and large are not.

TIME....is the enemy of the homophobe.

That's your opinion and we will just have to disagree.

Thay hate the analogy...but it's true. Look at polls on inter-racial marriage from say ...1960.....versus 1990 or today. Opposition drops like a rock....even among self-described conservatives.

And the "anti-miscegenation" folks were making almost IDENTICAL arguments in the 50s and 60s. The only new wrinkle the anti-SSM folks add is "procreation"....which trips them up when you bring up infertile heterosexual couples...and they have no coherent or non-contradictory argument.

40 years from now....hell, maybe 20 years from now....saying you oppose gay marriage will be looked upon as bigotry even by conservative Republicans. And imagine, as with inter-racial couples like Clarence Thomas and his wife Ginnie, when you have a same-sex married couple...

who ARE conservative Republicans, vying for a political or high judicial office, with the support of the GOP???? :)
