The thing is, that the Dems want to differentiate between different crimes. They are seeing label a theft without anybody being hurt and the object being stolen being relatively cheap not as bad as using a minimum amount of force in order to steal. And then it goes up on how bad they see it with using deadly weapons and when people get seriously hurt. And every crime gets a specific sentence that corresponds with how serious the theft was.

But I guess some would like to punish black people who steal something that's relatively cheap where nobody got hurt.... as if it's an armed robbery where somebody lost an organ. And yeah, systematically black people are sentences much harsher then white people under the same circumstances. Maybe that's what is grinding your gears that there is put an end to this phenomena.

The increase of flow at the border is due to the lax enforcement and condoning if not encouraging people to violate the law. It might be hard to find an open invitation but it is perceived as such as we see when the mobs are asked why they are coming now. Same with the shoplifting and burglary. The demands for abolishing police and prisons, cash bail and raising the bar on felony theft does what is being claimed.
