Get a clue. Organized religion will be in the dustbin of history in 100 years ... unless we blow ourselves up.

If you mean Jesus, then I assure you that by normal standards of historical discourse,
that He was an historic figure.
And the Christianity He gave us was the religion your ancestors lived by. They learned
the ethics of honest labor, fidelity in marriage, the universalism of all people, personal
responsibility, morals, forgiveness, self-improvement, meaning to life and such.
Since dispensing with this "imaginary friend" we seem to have created an extremely
violent world of nihilism, narcissism, laziness, adultery, drug abuse, pornography,
gambling, self hate, materialism and so on, so on and so on.
Out of Christianity and this "imaginary friend" the world got democracy, the scientific
method, the rights of man, the industrial revolution and such. This did not happen in
the Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or pagan world. Some say it's just a co-incidence, but I
    think not.

No, I'm talking about "God." If there's no Big Daddy, there's no Son of Big Daddy. Jesus was a mere mortal, like the rest of us.
None of it came from an Imaginary Friend.
Our society is better than it was 160 years ago.
You attribute too much to Christianity.

87% of oil revenues are reinvested in healthcare, education, infrastructure, clean water and economic development.. Plus they have universal healthcare... and a social net for crippled children that is VER impressive.

Now hold on a second, you evaded my question. You said jesus did not approve of the cruelties of the old testament. The book of Matthew explicitly states that he did. And then you cite from the Bible to support your assertion. That is a direct contradiction.

I would say this is off topic, but really it's dead on. You demonstrate quite neatly the benefits of tossing out the nasty bits of religious text. I am pleased that you do.

Okay, but that's like saying that you are more likely to be stung by a bee than you are a rare tsetse fly....but without mentioning there are 20 times as many bees as tsetse flies.

Matthew never said that Jesus supported any "cruelty" of the Old Testament.
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
    destroy, but to fulfill"

He said that Jesus came to fulfill the law and establish a new Covenant. The
law wasn't so much "cruel" as "severe." It demonstrates our state before God.
Where Jesus was "cruel" lay in what he said - that people who did not accept
His redemption and sacrifice would suffer the fate of the Old Testament law.

You are moving the goalposts. Matthew specifically says Jesus had no objection to it. That's a fact.

    hehehe.
You mean, the world will not have a pope in a 100 years, and an organisation like AIPAC will be gone too?
No more fighting over the promised land, temple mount etc.
Maybe in a 1000 years, we have a chance. But in a 100?

    Absolutely not

You had better quote where Jesus was okay with the "cruelty" of the Old Testament.

How many have died fighting over the temple mount and promised land,
and how many have died fighting secular causes like Fascism, Communism,
    Empire, Nationalism and racial hatreds?

Of course religions will not truly disappear, maybe not ever, as humans are hard wired to be superstitious and bigoted. Murder and rape will never disappear, either.

    Is this the verse?
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
    destroy, but to fulfill"

there is no contemporary historical account of a man named Jesus...none

yeah all those things were very much in place well before atheism....

Buddhists are technically atheists because they don't have an imaginary friend...and many of those who pushed for the scientific method and rights of man were atheists, enlightened athiests have always been around but they learned to keep their heads down so it was lopped off by "enlightened christians"...

I'm sure if american women were legally owned, oppressed and beaten with impunity by men as they are in KSA there would be fewer deaths in the USA as well...

Even the Saudis (led by Mohammad bin Salman) understand they have to modernize their society before their oil wealth runs out. Already, oil revenue is declining on a per Saudi basis as their population continues explosive growth. As it is, Saudi Arabia is having difficulty attracting foreign capital for industrial development as outsiders will only bring technology to the country for a huge premium.
