“The Virginia Legislature approved adult-use marijuana legalization Saturday in a historic vote marking the first state in the Old South to embrace full legalization. The House passed the measure in a 48-43 vote, and the Senate approved it in a 20-19 vote. Not a single Republican voted for the bill in either chamber.” Another instance of Democrats listening to the will of the people and science, another example of Republicans being the anti party. A win for small government and personal freedom www.politico.com/amp/news/2021/02/27/virginia-legalizes-marijuana-471840 www.politico.com/amp/news/2021/02/27/virginia-legalizes-marijuana-471840
I'm curious as to why it won't be implemented until 2024. IIRC, it only took us a year to get up and running.
Where's Ted Cruz with his plagiarism of Mel Gibson? I guess he was just kidding screaming like an idiot, "Freedom!" What fools these Trumplicans are.
I was really thinking the trump administration was going to do this at the end of his term. It would have really smoothed over some of the negative actions that will follow the last four years in history. Legalization is inevitable and fits nicely into what the congressional republicans say they represent — personal freedom, individual rights, small government — but they always seem to only want to prevent progress it seems.
Agree. Similarly, it surprises me that Democrats prefer legalization. I'd think they prefer to tell / shame people into what to think and do instead of provide freedom of thought. It's an odd topic in that way. I'm pro legalization personally.
No kidding. Trump gave Toby Keith a medal of the arts. Just because he'll never smoke weed with Willie again doesn't mean he'll never smoke weed again.
They would have had real problems with the right if they did that. Imagine how evangelicals would condemn it, just for starters. Demonizing marijuana has been GOP orthodoxy for too long for much of the base to give up.
I agree it is inevitable, I figure if PA, MD and OH legalize it, that will set off a rush with AZ and maybe a few more red states following suite.
Contrary to the gaslighting from the trumplicans, republicans stopped defending personal liberty when the evangelicals took over. They want to control everything about your life, from what you can put in your body, to what you do for fun, to what consenting adults can do, where you can put your penis, who you can love, and even when you can die. Righties take the one example of wanting unlimited rights to own weapons, and ignore everything else.
To a certain extent, it would not have helped the Evangelical base, but Trump has slightly shifted away and his bloc is completely conspiracy based, but those conspiracy based are not anti pot, in fact far from it.
I support the bill, but with respect to "help" it should be considered that chronic Marijuana use over time lowers IQ by 8 points per the following. https://www.amazon.com/Hacking-Amer...8602&sprefix=hacking+the+ameri,aps,281&sr=8-1
I have a lot of disdain for weed. One of my neighbors smokes weed on the reg and the smell travels all the way to my apartment. That's just inconsiderate. That doesn't mean they shouldn't have a right to smoke weed. But they shouldn't be able to do it in apartments or condos. I shouldn't have to suffer that smell just because some other ******* wants to.
I agree with you. My quick litmus test to determine if someone supports personal freedom is to ask if they support the 2nd Amendment and also support the legalization of Marijuana. In my experience, few do. No political party that support the growing of government is for personal freedom.
100% this. We need treatment centers instead of jail for addicts. I have seen alcoholism alone rip through families like tissue paper. So much in this nation is based on punishment and then oftentimes after the sentence is complete those individuals struggle to find world because of a possession charge. I dislike weed immensely but it really does help some people and has no business being compared to hard drugs like meth or heroin.
If they're going to legalize Cannabis AKA Marijuana, IT should go to those that are in need of it and not to those that won't. It should not be legal for those under 21 and those high school age. It was illegal back in the 1960s and 1970s. In California they had a ballot to legalize cannabis but got voted down.
I believe most of the legalization has age restrictions of 21 on them. Well after the point it’s use causes the most damage. Children should absolutely not be able to use substances that will damage them for life. The issue then becomes how can we ask 17-21 year olds to fight and die for their nation but not have absolute freedom in their own nation?
Being a lifelong Virginian (and closet Libertarian) and as somebody who has never tried this product, I still think the pros seriously outweigh the cons for legalized pot. Virginia is rapidly becoming a very cool state, after far too many years being a backwards red state... Prepping up for our next D governor in the fall, be it McAuliffe 2.0 or a black woman named Jennifer (we have 2 to choose from)...
I am a Conservatarian (Conservative / Libertarian). I am not a stoner, but I see no reason not to treat Marijuana just like Alcohol. If people want to smoke it in private... have a nice day.
