No, they're BSing people about what they're doing with districts that can't attract math specialist teachers. It took me about fifteen minutes of looking to find the escape hatch that allows districts to continue accelerating good math students.

Once again, poor folks are getting screwed with the government having the gall to pretend they're improving education.
Socialism is collectivizing production, period. You mistakenly having it include income and wealth transfers brought about by the taxation and government spending.

Mistakin ima not. Socialism is when a doctor, having to spend 20 years educating himself, makes less money than a plumber fresh out of trade skrul.

And it appears, what you know about socialism you've learned from books and other educational materials.

That may be the face of socialism.
Yeah, sure--you picked it up in the "real world."

There's no way California is going to cut accelerated math programs. The article you cite states that Virginia is ending math acceleration. Here are the easily obtainable facts about Virginia:
    • "The implementation of VMPI would still allow for student acceleration in mathematics content according to ability and achievement. It does not dictate how and when students take specific courses. Those decisions remain with students and school divisions based on individualized learning needs."
    • "The traditional high school pathway culminating in the study of Calculus or other advanced courses is not being eliminated. Additional course pathways will include engaging semester courses in statistics, data science, modeling, design, and logic, among others."
    • "Local school divisions will still have plenty of flexibility to create courses aligned to the standards to meet the needs of all students; and provide opportunities for all students to advance through the curriculum based on their learning needs. School divisions will also be able to offer advanced sections and acceleration through the courses."
    https://www.doe.virginia.gov/instruction/mathematics/vmpi/index.shtml

States are scrambling around to implement a curriculum that the available math instructors, in very short supply in all but wealthy school districts, can deliver.
Try harder to dig for the truth.

Am I defending the idea of dumbing down the math curriculum? Absolutely not.

No, they're trying to cover up a math teacher shortage.

Sounds like a recipe for white (and Asian) flight. Maybe that's what CA wants: chase all the smart people away.

Speaking of Virginia and shortages of brains, the GOP is currently attempting to pick their governor nominee this week

Looks like the T****iest candidate is currently pulling 3rd, but it's ranked choice, so there is plenty of room to go down...

    SNIP
After the first round of counting Monday, Youngkin had 33% of the weighted vote, followed by Snyder at 26%, Chase at 21% and former Virginia House Speaker Kirk Cox at 13%, according to returns provided by the party.
    ENDSNIP.

I suspect all of these horses are doping however...

I am curious. This should hurt most top Virginia High School scholars from getting into top colleges. AP Classes increase your GPA beyond 4.0. If other states have them from Freshman year through Senior, then their students will have a high GPA potential and that matters.

Yep. Inequality in math is surely at fault here.

They aren't stopping school districts from teaching advanced mathematics.

How clever of you to blame me for something Virginia and California educators are accused of! You're not a teacher for nothing! :couple_inlove:

What's with you, anyway? You had your head stuck up the rightwing echo chamber, got what's happening in Virginia wrong, moved on to make an absurd claim about "Kalifornia" and now you're attacking me for pointing out your screwup.

*shrug I'm sorry I've offended you.

I'm curious, what is your interpretation of this be?

...As a part of the department's push to enact greater racial "equity" in education, it seeks to remove tracking options for students more proficient at math than their peers, putting public school students who require calculus and other advanced math classes for their college applications at a massive disadvantage compared to their private school peers...

No, the fact (??) that the GOP has to have a nominee for governor in Virginia is at fault here.. when that person has a snowball's chance in hell of winning..

Just borrowing the thread to keep Virginians up on their Governor's "race"... don't take offense..

Youngkin is the final winner, BTW..... Cheeto Jesus endorsed him, so that's how you can be sure...

    https://www.npr.org/2021/05/10/9957...cal-newcomer-youngkin-as-nominee-for-governor

    You wanna read something funny?

    SNIP
The 54-year-old Youngkin pitched himself as a pro-life and pro-gun Christian who is best-positioned to take on Democrats in the vote-rich suburbs of Washington, D.C., Richmond and Hampton Roads.
    ENDSNIP

In that mix of T****y and T****ier, he probably is best positioned to lose by only 8-9% points, so the GOP actually got it right here...
