Is Abbot more inclined to issue new state-wide protocols or leave it up to local officials?

Pop-up hospitals are one thing. Pop-up doctors and nurses quite another.

Yes, I am. You don't think small groups of protesters met at bars/restaurants/homes before and after carpooling to downtown Houston....and then mixing into an even larger crowd?

The Mayor of New Orleans took some heat for not cancelling Mardi Gras parades, before cases in N.O. exploded. The protests look like similar throngs of people shoulder to shoulder.

Very confident that they did actually. We know this, since we know law enforcement has recently been catching the spell of the coronavirus, coincidentally along the same time.

They're most likely the single largest contributor to the increase. My observation about businesses incrementally reopening is that most all have been wearing masks and social distancing. I am well beyond that 20-30 year age range though.

As he said, closing down businesses again is the "final" option. Most counties outside the large cities are managing the virus quite well. No need for a "state-wide" anything.

Sure they are. Nationwide numbers are showing stresses on hospitals in several areas, though. At some point the resources just won't be available.

Supplies limited ...... order yours now!!!

~ Of course. This is to be expected by most of us. The "news" is always tainted and politically influenced . :-?
Naturally an increase in testing means "rapid increases in covid cases." There is an expected increase in those who are positive. Deaths and hospitalization remains flat. Even New York is improving in spite of poor management .

I wear a mask, but I'm thinking of buying and upgrading to a new mask. Apparently different masks have different layers of filters, and if you think of it(ironically) like a wall, the more wall's the better.

So will he leave it up to the locals or not? The thing is, people from smaller cities travel to bigger cities for all sorts of reasons. And then there's the issue of delivery drivers from big city hubs.

Seems like some kind of state-wide something is in order. This ain't gonna fix itself.

Study Butte, pop. 233, Quitaque, pop. 378, and Nocona, pop. 2931, are my three favorite Texas towns if I had to choose just three.

You can't treat those people like Houston. You just can't.

Well, you and I are both in Mississippi, where cases are rising, too. Every state has its isolated areas. I'm not in one of them as I live on the coast.

So what mitigation/containment efforts do you favor as the numbers get worse daily? Mississippi's daily deaths have almost doubled from the national peak period.

He's had his hands full since taking office. First all the killings at Parchman, then the virus.

Did you notice that at least some of the casinos are requiring everyone to wear a mask now? You're likely to see more of this and not just at casinos. Probably a good idea, given that no one wants to shut down again. Restaurants and bars are a problem, though, since it's kinda hard to eat or drink with a mask.

In spite of the current new case rates, Texas still has less than 1/2 the deaths of California and 1/13th the deaths of New York . Texas government is monitoring the situation and responding as they see fit and have plans to escalate the response if needed.

A lot of people aren't going back to the casinos after going once. Too restrictive, long waits for a machine, less fun, and now add the mask. We never went at all anyway.

We wouldn't sit down in a restaurant for any amount of money. But we're high risk by age.

So far MS has about one-eighth of the deaths per million that NY has. We don't want to buck that any higher ourselves.

1/8 is 12.5%. Mississippi is currently at 21% of New York's deaths per million. So about 1/5.

If water was what you were attempting to control, the paper towel works, until it doesn't. It still doesn't stop microscopic things from transcending the towel, does it? Again, the fiction here is that somehow you believe you understand suspended particulates. Which certainly, you don't. Your attempt at being authoritative here is undermined by your lack of knowledge. It's embarrassing. Really.

    RE: Masks

The prevention they offer is not 100%, but also not 0%.

Sigh - don't let perfect be the enemy of "this is what we have."

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/06/24/health/us-coronavirus-wednesday/index.html

Highest number of new cases per day in the Union goes to........ California and their Uber conservative government!

A selective use of numbers to try and push a certain narrative tells a lot about ones character some would say. Me, I’m use to seeing the left do it so I’m not surprised any longer.

But if you want to talk about Tejas let’s talk about Mayor Turner of Houston.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/dfw.cb...ston-rally-call-for-non-violent-protests/amp/

    https://abc7.com/society/houstonians-march-in-support-of-george-floyds-family/6226152/

That is him this month with 60,000 people at a march. Notice the lack of social distancing and mask on stage and in the crowd. Wanna guess what party Turner is from??

But his silly ass demanded Abbot let him mandate mask in Houston.

    And this stupidity

A wee bit of hypocrisy no?

Hmm.. Ok so we aren't fully opening. We are already at 75%, Coasting maybe? I have suggested that we suspend all interstate travel from the most infected places. You know, quarantining those folks because it's probably good to do it. If folks had actually tried to quarantine this from the beginning, likely we would be where we are now. But noooo.... that was racist cause you can't punish or isolate the Chinese, and it's the same now, you can't stop a Kalifornian or a New Yorker at the border,... noooo... that's unfair to them... It is, however, how TX developed as many cases as we have. Y'all should just stay home a spell and leave us alone.

So? The headline seems like it is the end of the world or something. Likely this is a local plan that allows many different kinds of facilities to help spread out the case loads and not horribly concentrate them like those igits in NYC did....
