WA Sherrif refuses to confiscate guns. Yesterday.

( http://klickitatcounty.org/373/Sheriff ) of Klickitat County in WA State responds to I-1639 (a recent ballot measure passed that imposes some rather "confusing" and "unconstitutional" new gun laws in WA) by saying in a skyped interview with Infowars:

"...If they come to take your guns, I'll be standing beside you and I'll call in a bunch of people and deputize them. They are not gonna take your guns without due process. It will not happen on my watch. I will stand there with that individual citizen and prevent that from happening. And if need be, uh, it could get ugly."

FTR: WA is one of those states where the State Constitution mandates that the Sheriff is the Supreme Law Enforcement Official within his/her jurisdiction. Which means Sheriff Songer has the legal authority to back up his claim.

I'll go ahead and go out on a limb and say this isn't the only Sheriff or Peace Officer with this mindset. What does this bode for the future prospects of gun control in this country? Do you still think it'll just be a bunch of disorganized hillbillies fighting the government, or might this convince you that 'gun control' is going to be a bit more complicated than that?

 

If it's a federal law he will stand aside just like Wallace did at the schoolhouse doors

 

Its not a federal law, its a state law.

A lot of Florida Sherriff's have the same attitude and also have jurisdiction over their respective counties plus have the authority to order local police to not enforce an unconstitutional law as well.

Firearm storage requirements
Under the measure, a person who left a firearm in a place where a prohibited person (someone who is prohibited from firearm possession under state or federal law) could potentially gain access to the firearm would be guilty of community endangerment, a class C felony, if a prohibited person gained access to the firearm

According to USSC, a law that requires a person to lock up his firearm violates the constitution.

There is no state law mandating that sheriffs confiscate guns.
