Most importantly Jesus said each individual was loved by God as an individual, and as such had individual responsibilities and duties. And????????
I did not suggest those responsibilities were the source of individual rights. Are you imagining things?
Exactly. Jesus brought us duties. Secular development of government brought us stuff like democracy, individual rights, separation of powers, freedom of religion, etc.
Are you advocating no laws or no freedom? What is the LW agenda regarding "freedom"? Feel free to prove God "sends people to everlasting damnation if they fail their duties". I'm curious about your evidence.
secular development of govt did not happen out of thin air obviously. After Jesus cannon law became secular law! Now do you understand?
Well, not all religions based on the bible treat all duties the same way. My point was that Jesus didn't bring us individual rights. But, he did bring duties.
Western development of government happened out of years of experience in government, including moving religion OUT of government. Jesus didn't bring us government. He brought us duties.
he brought us God's love for each individual and that led to individual rights Locke and Jefferson. Now do you understand?
You asked the same question after I'd posted the answer. I just chose not to copy/paste. I might have just ignored your repeated question, I guess.
this is very illilterate of course. Christian leaders created capitalism for secular govt to adopt. For example, throughout the middle ages Christian leaders fought for laws against usury and many aspects of commerce to make the economic process consistent with Christianity. Most American Founders like Adams and Jefferson agreed that Christianity was the foundation of the govt they created
Correct. It's a matter of interpretation. First, see my first sentence. Second, what "duties" do you think Jesus brought us. Not what some religions say he brought us. Just the factual evidence as you know it.
The foundational principle that all men are created equal does not particularly depend on the Bible - or on Jesus at all. Plus, the secular development of government including the exclusion of religion from that government can not be ignored. Let's just remember that the thesis that Jesus brought us individual rights is ridiculous. The new testament documents Jesus as bringing us duties and advising that we accept government - even including that of Rome.
Ooooh, the irony. Are you claiming that everyone in history, including the Greeks, Romans, Chinese, etc who engaged in free trade were Christians? Ahh, usury. So why do you think it's legal in the US? Why do so many Republicans support the banks and charging interest for loans?
The responses of Jesus to the surroundings he encountered were consistently those of the golden rule, of helping those who need help regardless of who thy are, of selling assets and donating them, etc. Those are the responses he taught us to emulate. He didn't teach us that we have rights. He taught us to follow him.
Agreed. I fail to see the problem. Teachers do that. Agreed. So where did he or God claim we had duties? Isn't that a matter of interpretation by mankind?
sure follow, e.g. by loving thy neighbor as thyself because thy neighbor was a sacred individual with rights who was loved by God and protected by the state. Jesus taught that because it was not known before. Time began with Jesus.
God taught the 10 Commandments because they were not know. Before Jesus we were Roman killers who went to the Coliseum to watch people eaten alive for fun. Now do you understand?
1) even Democrat bankers charge interest on loans 2) interest is not usury. it is simply the price of money Do you understand?
