    What would school vouchers solve?

At least the peasants could chose the school that would 'educate' their kids.

No, one reason to shut down the voucher programs completely.

School is failing because parents who can afford pull the better students into a private school.
School gets worse because it loses federal funding.
Govt starts voucher program so people will move their kids to private schools
Schools get worse yet for those left behind.

Now if voucher programs completely eliminated all religious school eligibility; and
Schools in the programs paid their teachers salary + benefits that matches public schools; and
Those schools were required to accept every applicant regardless of race, religion, political affiliation, or academic standing
then we'd have something to discuss.

You are incorrect. Schools are failing because there is no incentive or consequences. There is no shortage of funding.

AS I said previously when parents pull the better students out ...
    Better students...
    Better students...

If parents want to educate their kids in private schools that is their right.
They do not have the right to government money to subsidize that choice
Especially when that choice harms the community as a whole.

    Reread that highlighted sentence.
If you claim to be a conservative that should be your stance
If you claim to be a libertarian that should be your stance
If that's not your stance then you're really a Socialist!

Wealthy parents also drive better cars than I do and live in bigger houses. That is pure bullshit, when do I get to go pick up my government supplied BMW and my 7 bedroom house with a government pool. Fair is Fair.

We need to model our education off the swedes.

All schools are private. Some specialize in certain things, college prep, trade school, athletics, the arts, etc parents and children are free to select any school they want. Some have admission requirements.

Every student gets $10k a year to take to any school that fits the bill or their specific needs. They may not charge any extras.

Schools that don't perform... close. Schools compete for students and the funding dollars they bring.

I think school vouchers and school choice are great...with that said if the parents or kids don’t want to put extra work in it is meaningless

So, where did the government get what you call "Government money"? Its our money! I live in Los Angeles and have 5 kids. 2 of my kids struggled in school and were threatened with being held back. They told me I needed to put them on meds for ADHD.

I put them in a non-union charter school and both graduated early. Their graduating class had many students that would have been left behind. Because of competition, a pregnant teen, recovering drug addict, and a kid whos family was homeless walked across the stage.

Like the greedy, irresponsible unions, you only want to discuss throwing more money at a failing one-size-fits-all system. Instead of falsely placing political labels on me, try discussing what would be better for these kids. I don't have a political party, but I am a parent. I grew up here and went through the public school system where bad teachers are rewarded the same as the great ones.

The current system strongly opposes competition and parents face imprisonment for trying to get their kids a quality, safe, education.

I have people asking me if they can use my address so they can get their kids into the charter school my son went to. Their valedictorian class was bigger than the entire graduating class of others schools in the area.

Its done already. I live in Los Angeles and CCWs are not issues to ordinary citizens. Only cops, judges, politicians, and criminals carry guns here.

more money doesn't fix substandard education
the US ranks in the thirties when it comes to reading writing and math testing but we spend more per student then any other country

what will fix it is competition just like it does with any other product if you try to sell a crappy product no one will buy it and your company goes under

if a school gives a crappy education no parent would want to send their kid to that school no kids no funding then that crappy school shuts down leaving the schools that provide a good education

So our current public education, government education is the scraps? Well then let's have vouchers that can be freely used in all schools or for private teachers.

    That's right.

    It's OUR money
And if you want to educate your children using OUR money you send them to OUR schools.

If you want to send them to a private school you have every right.
You do not have the right to use OUR money to send your kid to your private school

Demanding that the government subsidize your choices? Sounds like a bunch of SOCIALISTS to me.

Then stop stealing money from the public schools to give to for profit private schools. More money won't fix their problems, remember?

Very big of you to admit its not the governments money. Im just curious, why do you support making better options unattainable for parents on low income?
