The White House put out a strong statement in support. “The United States is currently out of the mainstream in the family of nations,” the statement declares, “in which only 7 out of 198 nations allow elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.” That data comes from a 2014 study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, which studied abortion practices. We are part of a dubious club of nations that includes North Korea, China, and Vietnam, as well as the Netherlands, Singapore, and … oh, Canada. That basically puts us and Canada in league with euthanasists and forced-aborters, not exactly dignified company for Americans and Canadians. Our pain-capable unborn are a national treasure that needs our protection. They cannot protect themselves, they need our protection in law. Give them the opportunity to live!
Really? You guys are going with the importance of "staying in the mainstream in the family of nations"?!!?? That's your justification? Okeedokee. Death penalty, incarceration rate, gun control, death penalty for minors, pollution. Shall we make sure to stay in the mainstream of the family of nations on these issues as well? Look, clearly this is a photo op law; As far as I can tell, only about 2 percent of abortions are performed after 20 weeks. I would surmise that an overwhelming number of those are due to health concerns. Under Obama, for the first time the US abortion rate fell below the rate of 1973 when Roe v Wade was first passed. This is just photo op stuff, but with some of the WORST debating ever, and leaving the door open to people demanding that science and staying in the mainstream of the family of nations be considered. Should have quit while ahead and stayed with the claim of pain and appealing to emotions (that is what the right does best these days it would seem).
Oh damned. And yes, this is absolutely just photo op type of behavior. The Trump administration is looking for something, anything, that it can claim as a win for its base. This bill has zero chance of passing the Senate, but maybe there are some conservative Trump supporters who have been disappointed with the lack of progress on the abortion front and now, Trump can claim that the lack of progress ain't his fault. And perhaps that will help him retain his 40% approval rating, which appears to be his only goal in governing.
And here we see an example of why Michelle Obama claimed that female Trump supporters were minimizing their own voice by voting for him.
Right. Because women can only vote for women and men can only vote for men. And blacks can only vote for blacks and whites can only vote for whites. Liberal identity politics on steroids.
Ummm hate to tell you but abortion after viability is not covered by roe v Wade Oh and in the state of Victoria Australia abortions are legal after 20 weeks so this so called study is pure fiction
Uh-oh. Abortion thread. Backing away slowly... (But I do tend to agree with the photo op comments; abortion at 5 months - ! - is pretty unusual.)
"only about 2 percent of abortions are performed after 20 weeks" do you know how many that is? about 20,000 per year that is over 1 million sense 1973 almost twice as many as murders committed by guns per year that is 57 per day about the same amount that died in the mass shooting in Vegas
20,000 per year is unusual? so then you would agree gun murders are unusual because that is only about half that
Yet another feeble attempt to distract attention from the FAILURE to address the mass murder in Las Vegas and the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.
It don't see why any swinging dick should have a say in these matters. Awful easy to pass judgement in something or someone when you have zero chance of experiencing it yourself. Let me know when they set up a better system to force the men to provide for these children.
Agreed, 100%. Let women decide their own health. A bunch of crooked old men in a room is not good enough and we can do better.
And if so, then ensure that men have an equal say in raising and participating in the life of the child.
Remember when President Donald Trump declared that he as President would not ban partial birth abortion and was "pro-choice in every respect"? Yes, me too.
I agree with you, but the courts have ruled that failure to pay child support does not automatically block visitation and participation. That is the court's and not the mother's decision.
Canada has no abortion laws and their abortion rate is slightly lower than the US. Forcing a woman to have an abortion is as bad as forcing women to gestate like cattle...
SO? Abortion is a legal medical procedure .......and an abortion over 20 weeks is for the life/health of women and/or fetus......but if one doesn't give a damn if a woman dies delivering they will love this law
TR obviously meant to post "President Trump", who was a proud supporter of the right to chose a partial birth abortion.
