Potter is another good series, in my opinion. Certainly the books are superior to the films, but that's no surprise. Same is true of Tolkien.

I have the Cleric Quintet, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Picked up the big single volume. Good to hear that it's a good one!

Wheel of Time looks cool. I hadn't heard of it before.

The Cleric Quintet is a fun book, if that makes any sense.

The Wheel of Time is badass. If you like massive epics in fully fleshed worlds, it is the very definition of one. I believe, in terms of word count, it's 4 times as large as the GOT series, thus far. I keep wishing someone I know will read it, but I can't get anyone to tackle the behemoth lol.

Which is the GOT series? I can't keep track of all the acronyms and initialisms that people throw around these days. It's like jargon that we're all just expected to know.

I'll be happy to read that epic series some time. I've read all of the Potter books, some more than once, and almost every Drizzt book in addition to those that focused on Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri. Just haven't gotten through the last couple or so yet. Been taking another break from the series since finishing the Neverwinter tetralogy.

Oh, sorry. GOT is Game of Thrones.

Yeah, the last book I read in the Drizzt series was The Thousand Orcs, so I've got quite a b of catching up to do. I read the dark Elf trilogy a few months ago, which is my favorite in that series. I can't wait to buy all the books and complete my collection.

I haven't heard of the Neverwinter books, but I'll check them out!

Funnily enough, I started out with none other than The Thousand Orcs! I set out to find some fantasy at Barnes & Noble. Didn't really know anything about modern writers or their series, but I had a hankering for high fantasy. I spotted that book and it looked interesting. Got through it and was quite hooked. I also picked up a trilogy by Richard Lee Byers, the one about Szass Tam and his undead horde and all that in Thay. I have a special liking for the undead, not sure why :D

The Neverwinter series are just later Drizzt novels. You'll have quite a lot to read before you get there, assuming you take the series chronologically as I've endeavored to do.

I'm tempted to sell you my old books, since you mention needing to buy them yet. I probably won't bother rereading them, and I have a bunch of them in German as well.

I actually started at the very beginning (technically Icewind Dale was written first), and went in chronological order from there. I can't wait to go all the way and get current with the series! I would also love to get into more of the newer Forgotten Realms books. I did read one of the books written by Byers, which was the first book in the War of the Spider Queen saga (good series), and I liked it a lot.

If you like undead, you'll definitely like Cleric Quintet ;-)

I might need to take you up on that when I finish WOT!

Oh, I should also point that if you like Forgoten Realms, you will almost certainly like the Dragonlance world as well, as they have very similar systems and are both based on D&D.

I'm re-reading Daemon and Freedom(TM) by Daniel Suarez. I enjoy getting re-acquainted with the character whose name is my online tag. Not exactly the best choice for an escape as if you're at all familiar with IT and related fields it will read like an impending doom story rather than a realistic techno thriller.

It's actually called A Song of Ice and Fire series. Game of Thrones is the title of the first book. imo, it is second only to LOTR in the fantasy pantheon.

Currently reading The Long Mars (book 3 of The Long Earth series) by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. Also Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain (the movie version to be released in November) and Oswald's Tale by Norman Mailer.

Sorry, I've never read it and only watched the show.

I hate to admit it, but it's been so hyped and talked about that I'll probably never read it. I'm one of those weird people who resists something when EVERYONE tells me it's incredible. I know it's juvenile, but I've always been that way.

Consequently, I haven't read many of the most popular fiction books in history. In fact, I can't think of any lol.

I am currently reading "I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life" by Ed Wong. It's a fascinating book about how the microorganisms play a role in shaping the health, characteristics, abilities and futures of human beings and all other members of the biosphere. Most importantly it shows how life is interconnected and dispels the widespread belief that we should sterilize ourselves from microbes as much as possible. Really interesting read that I'd recommend to anyone who appreciates science and humor

    Great book.

If I may...I would recommend Shogun...if you have not yet read it. Truly a terrific book.

The History of the Kings of Britain by Monmouth.
It has taken me unusually long as it is a freaking terrible book. Never have I read a less historically accurate book.
It is quite interesting to compare it to the Brexit people... They have as sound a grasp on reality as Monmouth had.

Just read Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.

I enjoyed it...although it did take a while to get into it.
