The military has a definition of what an assault weapon is, but Biden isn't talking about the military. I suppose that any weapon used by a civilian to carry out an assault, could technically be called an assault weapon.

~ Any weapon used to "assault " someone — including fists, sticks, pipe, pistola, knife etc. — is an "assault weapon" .

Biden likely means the same definition used for the 1994 federal assault weapons ban as well as the individual state assault weapons bans.
What people like Biden seem to fail to understand is that the 1994 federal assault weapons ban had little to no effect on firearm deaths or the lethality of gun crimes. Studies have found that the overwhelming majority of gun crimes are committed with weapons which are not covered by the AWB, and that assault weapons are less likely to be used in homicides than other weapons

Nope, not referring to the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons ban.

Any weapon can be considered an "assault weapon". So I voted yes to the poll question. But just because something is considered an "assault weapon" does not mean that it should be gotten rid of/banned.

All Rights are double edged. That doesn't mean we should subvert them to get rid of the bad. Because you can't get rid of the bad, without also getting rid of the good. And we do have a Right to Self Defense against any and all that would try and do us harm. Be it Joe Blow or Government.

~ Biden likely does not know what the Hell he is saying — just reads scripts and repeats what he is told.
The Joe Biden / Kamala Harris administration is the definition of "assault weapon " ... :x"

'Assault weapon' is meant to be a subjective term that defines for good little citizens what they're not supposed to have without the government's permission. Today its semiautomatic rifles. If we ban those, next will be something else like pistols, and so on until The People have no means to defend themselves whatsoever and are therefore totally dependent on 'the authorities' monopolization of the legitimate use of force. Security will become dependent upon obedience to authority instead of an individual right, and we will effectively be slaves to the state.

He said "semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick. Just sick. It has no, no social redeeming value. Zero. None." I have no reason to think that he would exclude them.

the AR-15 generally uses an "intermediate" round, between pistol and long rifle, it only lacks the auto feature, and 3 shot burst feature, the general public does not make that distinction considering how fast one can pull a trigger

I’ve got a whole bag of assault weapons. I putt with some, drive with a few, and there’s pockets for tees and snacks.

There are much scarier and deadlier guns than semi autos or full autos. If The American public buys what he’s putting down they have no real knowledge on current weapons.

Assault weapon is a meme. It's some arbitrary set of features that people who don't really know much about fire arms came up with so they could virtue signal about "doing something to stop violence"

When I mock this I refer to them as mega ultra death machines. Or scary scary bang bangs because it's the same thing.

Spooky guns are how I make fun of the ghost gun nonsense.

Like a fully automatic frying pan or a pillow case if war.

Mock this nonsense relentlessly. To the point where people are embarrassed to use these terms.

"Assault weapon" is just another made up terms that the Democrats use to scare people.

Just like "military grade". Anyone who's been in the service can tell you that "military grade" isn't exactly a good thing...lol

You're confusing the AR-15 with military's M16 version. Soldiers are trained to fire 3 consecutive rounds when in auto mode because the M16's barrel could not withstand excessive barrel heat. The civilian version AR15 is strictly semi-automatic only.

The term will need to be narrowly defined before it even gets consideration for banning.

Just an FYI, That is not why we fire in 3 round burst. The M16- A 2-3 and 4 are usually good through 10,000 rounds and barrel replacement is due to riffling issues, not heat damage.
3 round burst is for accuracy and minimum recoil. Emptying a 30 round magazine at full auto usually results in very few (if any) rounds on target.

Both M16 and AR15 used the same round. (5.56)
The M16 barrel heat test is 140 rounds (5 magazines) at full auto (which would never happen under any condition) with ball ammunition and tracer rounds
Temps with ball ammo are 600 degrees and tracer rounds are 780 degrees.

The second test is 280 rounds at full auto with ball ammunition and tracer rounds
Temps with ball ammo are 800 degrees and tracer rounds are 1100 degrees.
Both test are within temp tolerance of all M16 barrels

i did include the AR15 as not have burst mode and auto mode, but the main distinction is i believe the use of "intermediate" ammunition, between pistol fire and a full rifle bullet, done to carry more ammunition, and because the super long range was deemed unneeded, the AR15 was brought to the attn of gen curtis Lemay in the early sixties and selected for use in SAC as the M-16 military version
a chrome barrel was later used as well as fixing ammunition issues, incidentally barrel can be interchanged in many firearms

He definitely doesn’t mean that. He means all semi autos. Don’t forget he demonized 9mm as well. And also remember that he supported and still advocates for lowering magazine capacities, that’s including fixed magazines.

    This ancient bickeroo debate again?

Even if ARs don't technically meet the definition of 'assault rifle', everyone should know what people mean when the term is used.

Assault Rifle derives from German word 'strumgehwehr', which literally means 'storming rifle', which were designed to increase firepower by adding full-auto feature and a more powerful round than the pistol rounds used in machine pistols.

So that's assault rifle, but then what is assault weapon. Obviously a "weapon" includes more than just rifles. Its up to the lawmakers to define, and you don't like the definitions they have come up with (based on 'looks' like pistol grip, flash suppressor etc) because they do not technically meet the definition of an assault rifle

Therin lies the conundrum for gun banners. If they narrowly define the term, it will not be broad enough to do what they want to do.

Assault Weapon is a rhetorical device used by propagandists manipulating the public perception.
