    Think about the days when the term cruel and unusual was coined. Back then people were drawn and quartered, burned at the stake, and so on. In death penalty cases the quickest death, such as beheadings, is the least cruel of all.

    It may be cruel, but not necessarily unusual. It has to be cruel AND unusual. It could be justifiable if it fits the crime.

    Extended periods of solitary confinement is cruel and unusual. People can go mad if isolated for too long.

    How do the victims benefit from this? Prison is about deprivation of liberty isn’t it? Not vengeance.

    Having to read posts of people so out of touch with reality they can't even bring themselves to acknowledge that Biden is too senile to serve, yet their party has no midget tall enough to stand up and admit that they are holding a losing hand. Biden plus Harris. OMG.

    Let's see=slow forms of execution-crucifying someone, burning at the stake, anal impalement, "the pear of agony" and other disgusting medieval forms of execution. I oppose the death penalty but I do not think hanging, shooting, or lethal injection is cruel and unusual. the gas chamber was one of the most painful ways to kill someone ever invented but it was fairly quick but I would ban it for that reason.

    solitary confinement for long lengths of time is worse than most of the above

    Sure. Agreed. But I am sure we can also agree that 16 years in prison for stealing a calculator is ridiculously excessive.
