Please, demonstrate to me how a virus can spread without contact.

Every new case results from a test. So this kind of nonsensical chart really is obfuscation and not fact. What it shows is that the U.S. does the most testing and the EU is in second place. I read people saying that statistics don't lie and here is a perfect example of it.

It reminds me of a statistic I read once that said that the majority of auto accidents occur within 25 miles of the drivers home. It failed to mention that the majority of driving occurs within 25 miles of home. I'm embarrassed that some fool compiled this information and then misled the reader on what it shows. I'll bet most covid infections happen within 25 miles from home as well. ;)

Please show me where I said anything about how the virus spreads.

I hope you're right, but so many are still in full stampede right now that it's disturbing. But, even quite of few of those wearing masks while shopping seem to know there is a scam in play.

Actually, we have never done enough testing.

There are options, but the basic way you get this virus under control is to do a lot of testing. We've had constant problems with testing. What you are saying is a blatant lie that has been completely refuted many times.

To get to an adequate level of testing, the min would be to double the RATE of testing. But it would make a lot more sense to triple, quadruple or even quintuple the rate.

This presumes we can get the results back in a timely manner, which is another of our many failings.

Btw, the chart is factual. What you were trying to say is that the data is being misinterpreted. To say you are out of your depth is like saying the Mariannas Trench is deep.

Mass testing is pointless. A person can be tested, found negative for the virus and then be infected an hour after the test. Testing should be used for those who have symptoms so the cause of the symptoms can be confirmed.

What I said is that the title of the chart is misleading and incomplete. It makes the reader think that we have the highest rate of infection and it doesn't say that at all. It says the U.S. out tests everybody else. It says cases and that is the exact equivalent of saying positive tests. Why doesn't it say how many negative tests as well. I am pointing out how statistics lie and you missed the point. Btw only one "n" in the name of the trench.

America and South Korea got hit the same day. South Korea got hit harder than we did. They did a number of things better than we did, but the crucial thing was the testing.

South Korea bent the curve, we did not.

We have over a thousand people dying every day. South Korea's total number of deaths is a little over 300. Some days we get that many by lunch...

"Within a month, the Korean outbreak was effectively contained. In the first two weeks of March, new daily cases fell from 800 to fewer than 100. (This morning, the nation of 51 million reported zero new domestic infections for the third straight day.) On April 15, the country successfully held a national parliamentary election with the highest turnout in three decades, without triggering another wave. South Korea is not unique in its ability to bend the curve of daily cases; New Zealand, Australia, and Norway have done so, as well. But it is perhaps the largest democracy to reduce new daily cases by more than 90 percent from peak, and its density and proximity to China make the achievement particularly noteworthy.

In the time that South Korea righted its course, the United States veered into disaster. In mid-March, the U.S. and South Korea had the same number of coronavirus-caused fatalities—approximately 90. In April, South Korea lost a total of 85 souls to COVID-19, while the U.S. lost 62,000—an average of 85 deaths every hour. That the U.S. population is approximately six times larger than South Korea’s does little to soften the horror of the comparison."

If SK had the same number of fatalities we do, they would have had roughly 24K deaths, they have had 302.

The numbers aren't lying here, you are.

Thanks for the diatribe and the illustration. However I am not lying. You have simply accepted the national hysteria worked up about the virus. To get you worked up even more let me suggest that you should refer to Covid deaths as deaths occurring in people testing positive for Covid. We don't know what killed them all because we don't autopsy them. I'm sure the virus has caused the death of many people but I have more sense to give you a number I don't know is true.

I saw an ad on TV yesterday for "copper infused" masks at 2 for $20. Those at least are incredibly profitable depending on whether there are enough fools to cover the cost of the advertising.

Well said about the small men with large egos.

Many countries got the death rate close to zero. Some did reach zero.

We have a thousand a day, we will have roughly a quarter million fatalities for the year. Once the numbers guy have the time, they can figure out how many more died than we caught, and how many excess deaths there were. It's going to be a lot.

So, SK at a few hundred, and we will have a few hundred thousand...

    According to whom? Those countries?

And the U.S. doesn't have many times the population of South Korea? You are suggesting that a country with 51 million people should be compared to one with 330 million? That is another statistic that lies because it doesn't consider the overall population size. You are doing exactly what I criticized the original chart of doing. I should also mention that, at least when I was in Korea, it is a semi militaristic state. If the government says wear masks, people wear masks. South Korea is a democracy but without all the freedoms we have.

In short, I recommend you stop drinking the cool aid and use your common sense.

Mother Nature’s way of saying there are too damn many people on this planet. I expect events like this to continue happening until we start reducing the population without the help of COVID.

It is possible that mother nature had nothing to do with this whole mess. Some people blame the lab in Wuhan.

There is some truth in that.

But... one of the primary drivers is industrial agriculture. We can fix that.

Plagues, or pandemics if you prefer, is something else we can, and should, deal with. The death and chaos they can unleash would crash civilisation, if left unchecked.

I'd love to see us start talking our problems seriously, but you don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

As my posts pointed out twice, about 6 times as many.

So let's say SK has a total of 400. Then we should have about 2500. We are going to have 250,000.

You are being ridiculous, time to stop.

of course not. I’m just saying this is a reality of dealing with a way overpopulated planet.

It seems likely that a lot of them will vote for trump a second time.
So yeah, those ones will be fooled again.

I’m following a few countries on Worldometer. One of them is Switzerland.

Shortly after this kicked off, Switzerland had one of the worst rates of infection per 100k population in the world, and their death rate per million was climbing rapidly and I think got into the top 10 (worst) in the world at one point.

They had a hard lockdown then opened gradually as the infections and deaths dropped. The curves of infections and deaths are both spikes. Steep up and steep down.

Now they’re averaging about 1 death per day and life is almost back to normal. Adjusted for population, that 1 death per day would be about 40 per day in America.

Don’t tell me trump is doing a good job in handling the virus.

There is a lot of real science demonstrating that masks do not prevent the spread of virus infections.
It is important that we all ignore that fact - until 11/4/20. ;-)

I have started stockpiling essentials in anticipation of a lockdown. So far, other than maybe Michigan, there really hasn't been Lockdown 1.0 yet. I probably have 3 months worth of food easy. I just need the things like laundry detergent, pet food, etc.
