Never say never; that being said, how charitable of you if you yourself have a roof over your head to offer.

That's not how the Constitution works. The Constitution gives the government enumerated powers. Where does it have the power to strip something inborn from someone?

Luckily such an extremist interpretation enjoys no support . . . well, anywhere. Well, you've successfully promoted a more authoritarian vision of government overreach than literally any leftist on the forum is proposing.

I agree, you do have a dumb argument by claiming homeless people will not work and that the answer is more free stuff. Typical liberal.

Oh, and you do not think ISIS is a problem, you support them as well?

Well I have suggested a program that has been proven to work in different parts of the country. You have a theory. How nice.

My question first. When do you ship out?

You're out of context. My quote was in response to another poster's retort (not to me) about useless old people who are also a burden on society.

I use some vacant housing and put them in it. We send in social workers medical people etc and process them. I use vagrancy laws to do this. Those that need medical or psychiatric help need to get it. Those that can work can use the housing as a halfway house as jobs are found for them, until they can get on their feet.

Maybe we could start first with all the guys who have signs claiming they are veterans and looking for work since clearly any veteran (a former brave hero) would never be such a loser as to become homeless.

I'll take that as a no -- it won't be you building these nice free houses for the homeless.

I wish there were no brave heros among the homeless but there are many.

Hospitals are staffed with social workers who can help those in need. Mental illness/addiction plays a very big part...much more than unavailable resources and help.

Hospitals are one of the most expensive ways to treat the homeless.

I didn't suggest hospitals be used to treat homelessness. Hospitals are pretty populous and accessible. Especially in urban areas where homelessness is more common. They all have social workers on staff who are pretty knowledgeable regarding resources for those in need. They can initiate contact and point the needy in the right direction.

And how do they do this? This has been tried and failed over and over

I just pointed out hospitals have social workers and described what services they could offer. I never suggested it as a fix for homelessness.

What is annoying is when an OPer asks a question, refusing to express their own opinion first.

Determine which ones are mentally ill, aged, drug addicts, alcoholics, bums by choice and lazy asses.

Those who are truly mentally ill and the aged should be provided for in government facilities. Drug addicts, alcoholics, and bums/lazy asses should be provided no government services, but offered residency in essentially internment camps if the person is breaking laws.

Bums are quite dangerous in terms of violence.

Homelessness and drug addiction are not crimes

Guys, I think we all know that some of the homeless are good people with dignity. Platitudes aren't getting us anywhere. If you become homeless czar, you will be expected to do something not only for their benefit but the benefit of the city as well. Executing them or dropping them off in the middle of the desert isn't the answer, but ignoring the homeless isn't an answer either.

Living on the streets doesn't always mean you are homeless.

Well if you don't like the idea of loading them up on buses and bumrushing them out into the middle of the desert, we can always set up some sort of facility on the outskirts of town where they will be fed and housed, and given temporary jobs in the road maintenance industry. As soon as the cops find a dignified homeless person, they'll be given a ride to this facility where they will be processed and assigned a secure room in this facility, and then during the day, they will be taken via bus to certain parts of town where they will be able to do their job while protected by the security guards of this facility. After a hard day's work, they will be transported back to their living facility and served dinner before retiring to their secure sleeping facilities.

The Housing First program benefits the homeless, the community and saves money. Where is the down side?
