Both God and, say, Saddam, claim supreme authority, both demand obedience with the threat of death/torture if unacknowledged, both refuse debate, both demand their word be taken as supreme law and demand human beings accept them as the great leader. I guess what bugs me is that the same far right wing who hate guys like Saddam and Hitler will turn around and be willing slaves to a "celestial dictator" as Hitchens so brilliantly put it. Either you are against dictators or you are not. But to love God and then hate human dictators makes no sense. What gives ?
Well, I dunno. I guess Hitler threw people that weren't true believers into the ovens to burn. But God... uhhmmm - well... Never mind.
Not exactly a valid truth statement, "you're either against dictators or you're not." Hitchens, I imagine, isn't an anarchist, but do you think that he (or you) believes that you're either for laws or not? Not as a matter of specificity, but as an absolute truth statement. It doesn't hold up. Further, the idea of "willing slaves" is no more accurate of theists than it is of public servants.
