Not any I've ever worked with. I'm applying to law school this fall. Yes I know it's a terrible market, but it's what I want to do and it's been my career path all through school and work.
So false. After my post-grad residency, I was able to work in any specialized department in a clinical setting. I could work in retail, industry, research, insurance, or in some public/government position. Science-based or healthcare degrees are very versatile. My school requires a oddly-high number of writing courses, medical and technical writing professional courses too. I think that gap is being closed quite quickly to save money on medical writers.
Oh, they know how to write. I have helped many polish their papers so they can be published. However, most know how to write at the level of their profession so that other engineers can understand it. It is not written at the level of the every day, non-engineer.
NC State requires all of their Science and Engineering majors to take a Scientific and Engineering geared course in writing.
