There's probably a lot of truth in what you say. I had cats when I was young and lived in apartments. When I bought my first house, I immediately bought a St. Bernard, who co-existed with the cats 'til they all crossed the Bridge. Now I'm in an apartment again and have a dog that I walk a half dozen times a day, easily, even in snow and ice. It's both exercise and entertainment for both of us. I've said if I outlive her, I'll get a cat, but I'll probably get another dog because they're so much more companionable. My neighbor has a cat that I go visit almost daily, and I'm always reminded of how much more loving and grateful dogs are. I can't imagine going to sleep without some kind of animal snuggled against my back. Honestly, I wouldn't care if it were a cat or dog. I love them all.
I had a cat from 4 years before I was born to age 20. Old cat. They're much better for relaxing. If you're thinking of getting a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) dog like a Shih-tzu, rethink your decision and get a cat. But dogs are great too. You just have to get an actual dog. A large one which can run, play and go to the beach.
The dog is a pack animal, and sees you as the pack leader. The cat is a solitary hunter, but very maternal, (in both sexes, ) The maternal instinct is very global and all-encompassing. It sees you as both its kitten and its mother. Cats can be quite as affectionate as dogs, (I have had several that would follow me from room to room, like a puppy) And I had a dog that was very independent and almost aloof. Animals are as much individuals as are people.
The bravery of little dogs is legendary. Most are absolutely fearless creatures that people keep just because this feature is so admirable
Ours is the most (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) little thing. It struts around the house like it owns the place. If you leave the door open itll (*)(*)(*)(*) indoors, you must open the door for it. Its scared of other dogs and will not go outside under any circumstances. More of a cat than most cats.
This is NOT a political poll. I have therefore requested that it be moved to a more appropriate area. It is a good poll, though. Well done to the OP for starting it.
I guess I figure if you want something like that you may as well actually get a cat instead of getting a dog which performs the function of a cat.
Exactly. Get tough dogs that can run and play and fetch, get cats you can snuggle up with by a fire. I just have a thing against small dogs is all.
Old saying: dogs have masters, cats have staff. I have accumulated three cats over the past couple years. Never had 'em before. They decide their roles in the house between themselves and it's fun to watch. But I sure do miss rassling with my old Airedale. She would come at me for hours until I'd say "okay, that's enough for now."
You will sad to hear then that he inventor of pet rocks died yesterday. Dogs will not only eat another dogs (*)(*)(*)(*) from off the ground, they will roll around in it. Cats do not do that. Cats win just on that alone. Dogs are fun but they are disgusting, nasty creatures.
I hated cats until I owned them. Now, more and more, I'm a cat person. I still love dogs, though. Each has their pros and cons. Cats are a lot easier to take care of and you don't need a house to own them. It sucks having a dog if you are renting apartments. The cats I had were very affectionate, loving, and needy, but only when they wanted to be. If you wanted to pick them up and pet them and they weren't in the mood, they'd let you know.
I agree with Ronstar on the importance of this poll. Cats are indeed a perfect pet. I used to think that dogs were, but I now support cats.
