That is another topic. I was referring to your reproach that he was a member of the "Hitler Youth". I do not think it fair to reproach him because of that.
It's only a reproach because you took it as such. It was simply a statement of fact. I remember 3 Popes. The one who got shot, the one who was in the Hitler Youth and the current one. I don't reproach the one who got shot, I do remember him though.
It was quite obviously an indirect reproach. You could really say so. Or was it meant as a kind of praise? There are more things to say about Benedict XVI than his forced membership in the "Hitler Youth". You might just as well have accused him of his being a German.
Without comments this becomes just another "How old are you" thread. A useful set of replies would help identify a person over 50 who was not aware of the 5 weeks John Paul I was Pope.
I was born when John XXIII was in charge, but I don't remember his death when I was 2. Nor do I remember the assassination of John Kennedy that same year, nor the death of Herbert Hoover when I was 3. I don't recall the 2 big assassinations when I was 7, but did hear immediately about the 3 astronauts who were burnt to death when I was still 5. I remember one of Eisenhower's heart attacks but I'm not sure if it was the one that killed him when I was 8.
My family started criticizing Paul VI for being carried by 4 men. Somehow I learned he was 80 in early 1978. On March 6 I became Christian and started attending a Pentecostal Church. That made him an enemy. When he died a Jewish kid offered me condolences. I didn't take it well. The conclave process caught my attention and the conspiracy theories about John Paul I caught my uncle's attention early. I'm still not sure.
I developed mixed feelings about John Paul II. About a year before he died I felt the need to read about all the Popes (Encyclopedia Brittanica) making me a scholar. The election of Benedict also produced mixed feelings. I consider Francis an acting Pope and his Cardinals invalid.
Have you heard about these prphecies of the Popes? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proph...hy purportedly, conclave occurring at the time.
Not enough. Raised as a Catholic, I was always disappoint there were no women or married priest. Then I knew why. The Popes didn’t want to share the churches wealth with families. They didn’t seem enough affected by the families who were decimated by Priest child abuse.
Well, you won’t like my post then. The pope is suppose to represent the word of god. There were far too few. They should have term limits of four years so they could be more in touch with the parishioners they were suppose to serve.
I'm certain that *most* people do not equate intelligence to whether or not somebody can name the Pope or previous Popes. So, it's not MY world. It is THE world.
So was I - and I still am. Btw: The "Old Catholic Church" have married priests. And also women priests, I think.
