Actually, this is incorrect. Mortgages were written to very specific criteria that was set-up by the biggest purchaser of home loans, the GSE's. Fannie Mae and to a lesser extent Freddie Mac would purchase any loan that fit into the mold they had put forth. If I were going to start holding folks accountable, I would be in DC not NY.
