    We've got problems, a long list of them, and it seems like every other week we only add to the list. Here's a few;
    The Southern border
    ACA "Glitches"
    Rising energy costs
An antiquated tax system full of loopholes
    Debt
an alarming number of able bodied American's who've exited the workforce
    public education
alarming organized gang activity from coast to coast
    an seemingly impromptu foreign policy
VA corruption (which we've been aware of for years)
A total lack of transparency at the federal level
    NSA spying
    IRS abuses
Massive shortfalls in public pension funds
    etc.,etc.,etc,

Now, I don't care how you rank these problems in terms of importance or who you blame for the problem, either. The fact is they are all problems, most are pretty damn serious too, but unless I'm missing something, no ones doing a frikkin thing but talking about them, spinning them in hopes of gaining some political edge. So, why isn't anyone FIXING them? Has Washington become so inept, so polarized, they're incapable of doing the job they were elected to do? Or are they just to lazy to step up to plate?
Hell, I don't really care, but if this is how Washington defines leadership, if this is the new norm of what we deem acceptable governance, we're toast. There's not a business, small of large, that would survive three weeks if they operated like this, and neither can we as nation. And please don't give me it's D's fault or the R's because it's a waste of time. We need solutions and actions, not more of the same. Leaders fix problems, they don't just point out what's broken, walk away and spend their time blaming someone else for the problem. .

    Why aren't we fixing anything?

Simple. The free stuff is more important than anything else.

If you find a big stick whose existence is hurting everyone, but you can use to beat your opposition with, do you pick it up and beat them with it before you do away with it, or do you just do away with it? These problems won't be addressed until there is a change of leadership because there is political advantage to allowing them to remain. Shameful.

If your opponent is about to make a bad move that will cost him the game, do you stop him? What if the bad move will negatively impact those who you represent? Is defeating your opponent more important than mitigating his bad policy? This is where we are.

In part yes, the federal government can't do anything about it. It's innefficient now and seems so far away. It's not the only reason though. It's also because we've come to hate the government. Pretty much since the 1980's, ads haven't been the same. They're attack ads that just disgust people. People got turned off from politics in general. Combined with the Reagan montra of "The government isn't the solution" and Bill Clinton declaring the "era of big government is over", people have to be inspired to vote, not because it's just their duties as basic citizens. We're not the same citizens as 100 years ago, we have no real sense of community. How do I know this? Look around PF. I don't know anyone's real name, all in the name of internet safety. This makes sense, I don't know who you are or if you say who you are is actually true. But because of it I don't see you as a fellow citizen taking the steps needed to become an informed citizen, I just see you as another person who might want my bank accounts or SS number.

Because its much easier to either have no opinion and say nothing, while collecting your check and hoping you can stick around long enough to get that cushy life long pension. Thats why most professional politicians are the scum of the earth, lower than most lawyers. When any REAL people who want to do something try to stand up the aforementioned politicians do everything possible to shut them up.

Yes, the nature of politics has become more about gamesmanship than results, and to a great extent voters have a adopted the mentality of sport fans. Once they become a fan of one side or another they're committed and don't really pay much attention to what's going on until they're needed to cheer on the team. The team winning is all that matters. Unfortunately, as we've seen so often, a win for the team doesn't always mean a win for the country.

From the standpoint of the taxpayer, the federal government is all pain and no gain.

Yes, I think you can draw a correlation between the public disdain for government and the breakdown of our sense of national community. People know our government isn't working the way it was intended and frustrated by the feeling of helplessness in trying to change what they know is broken. They are frustrated by supporting politicians who promise them one thing and deliver something they don't even recognize, or worse, nothing at all.
I don't pretend to have all the answers on how to heal this nation, but one thing I'm pretty sure of. if we don't start fixing the messes, we're toast.

We're not fixing anything because Obama is deliberately trying to wreck the country. And he's succeeding.

And then that in turn only makes the problem worse. The two party system has failed us. Both sides have failed us. I give credit to the tea party, they got involved. I give credit to OWS, they got involved, but they got hijacked by special intreset groups and in the case of OWS, they fell thanks to the government. It's frustrating, they're good symbols of people trying to do something, but it just doesn't get there in the end.

    I don't know about toast, but I don't want to inherit this world. It's a mess, it's a disgrace.

    Yep, that's exactly why.

We as a people have continued to vote out moderates and compromising voices as representatives, and vote in non-compromising ideologues, a movement fully supported by some of the media.

When we elect people based on their non-compromising ideology, you can hardly be surprised when the don't compromise to fix things.

It's the Republicans, not Obama and the Democrats, that benefit from a wrecked economy.

See for example the numerous threads started by conservatives touting bad economic news. It's not a coincidence.

    Why Aren't we FIXING Anything?

Most of the list is either a government agency failing to perform its Congressionally charged responsibility or just government interference in a process best left to market forces.

Well, the obvious answer is that neither side can agree on a solution.

This is because both sides want THEIR solution to be the one taken, at any cost, and neither side is really interested in compromise.

The only way things will get done at this point is if one side completley destroys the other side, or if average people get sick enough of things to find a third side.

In some regard that might be true, but there's a world of difference in actually fixing problems and applying first aid to symptoms which is to often what we get when we hear a lot about sides moderating and compromising. I understand those attributes are often necessary to keep the ball in play, but if fixing problems is the objective (and it should be), those attributes shouldn't restrict the flow of ideas & solutions as it's doing now. I don't blame one side more than the other in that regard, but the real problem is no ones debating in the arena of ideas, they're just hunkered down within their respective dugouts and throwing stones like pestilent children while seemingly ever pipe in the system is leaking and were slowly drowning. It's not good.

Why? Because liberals are in control and are applying the same failed solutions as they always do.

Personally I don't think they want to fix anything. I personally believe these people are enemies of America who want to destroy America from within any way they can.

This mentality among much of the voting population is a huge problem. Some people need to actually open their mind and stop being a partisan hack.

They don't want to destroy America, they want to change America. They want an equalized society where no one is more or less successful than the other. They want a society where there are no "haves" or "have nots".

They know that not everyone is capable of being successful, so they then want to create a society where more people are perpetually dependent upon government than those who are not.

Which pretty much destroys the original intent for America.

Personally, i want to help the have nots too, but not by punishing people who have more than others.

And that kind of equalized system will not work. we are not cookie cutter molds, we are not clones. There is no such thing as equalized people.

Also there is no diversity in such a system.

Some people actually believe that a compassionate and just society is measured by how many people are dependent upon government programs for their subsistence. The more people mired in dependence, the better.

Of course it does increase their power over people.

Good lord. You guys really buy into the propaganda you're fed by the RW media. I read the posts here and it's just like I'm tuned into the Rush Limbaugh show. Same propaganda pap regurgitated, day after day.

I'm a liberal. I have never proposed equalizing people or income. Nor has any other liberal here I know of. Maybe a couple commies here do, you'll have to ask them.

That's a simplistic answer that really should be in different thread. Republican's and Democrat's are equally culpable in the context of not really fixing things in DC. Rep's had the mantle for 8 years under Bush and what problems did they actually fix? SS? No. Tax loopholes? No. Our antiquated tax system? No. Border security? No. Cronyism in DC? No. How about the stupid lending scheme that led to the housing crisis? They saw it, talked about, had hearings about it and still did nothing about it. And who was it that gave the green light for federal agencies to begin wire tapping and spying inside our borders? Republican's!
You see, when you get right down to it, they didn't really fix problems either. In reality both parties are essentially avoiding fixes and opting instead to just add more layers of bureaucracy and calling it a "victory for the American people" while they pat each other on the back. They move on and we're left dealing with what they did.

Why? Total failure of leadership, and major disagreements and lack of power among the populous. It happens to every government and state eventually, like a moldy refrigerator in need of a good cleaning and restocking..

Wrong. I'm just standing by watching what's going on and also observing the results.

BTW. Who or what is the RW media?
