Most people, including Muslims, point to the Koran in some way or another by talking about 'good' and 'bad' Muslims. A 'bad' Muslim is defined from inside Islam as one who does not obey the way of the Koran (e.g. eating pork). There is universal agreement that such people are more prone to commit acts of mass-murder than Muslims who practice the faith correctly (e.g. no pork, alcohol or fornication).

But, what does compel so-called 'bad' Muslims to become amateur killers?

    It is an interaction between:
    - an individual,
    - immediate social context (e.g. in France, Muslims are treated very very poorly),
    - wider context (e.g. Bush calling Iraq '03 a crusade, Israel, that whole middle eastern war thing, etc.) ...
    - ...and, yes, Koranic teachings. When an individual from a different culture lives in run-down conditions in a hostile country, and is a loner isolated from people who are well-balanced spiritually that person might look for a better afterlife as a martyr earned by acts of 'faith' like Koran-sanctioned mass-murder. The Koran gives clear orders to believers to fight in combat against those who are the oppressors and those who are assaulting and killing innocent men, women and children - so the American-led quasi-wars in various Arab states qualify very nicely. As such, these 'bad' Muslims see themselves as 'good' because they are martyrs in times of great difficulty for their brothers and sisters elsewhere. By the Koran, all Muslims, no matter where, may be engaged in this conflict legitimately by whichever method they wish - hopefully peacefully but not necessarily at all. But this alone is nowhere near enough to explain the psychology of the mass-murderer who claims to be Islamic. The answer is this - it is the manner in which western nations treat Muslims at home and abroad that has triggered this global chaos, and when people observe or experience the terrible injustices of social insult and economic oppression they see themselves as a natural enemy of such states.

How does that explain the terror they commit among their own groups?

Seems you are missing part of the equation.
