Why does the whistleblower's identity matter?

It matters for the precise reason that the confrontation clause in the 6th Amendment was enacted. It gives the accused the right to confront and cross examine the witness against them.

So you wouldn't want to know your accuser? WOW that's sort of sad to realize an American that would simply "Lay Down" while the legal system make claim "OF" accusations with out ever proving there validity. :( ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

Would love to see a list of names with relevant information tied directly to the withholding of $400,000,000 in military aid to Ukraine that would show up for the defense. Who might they be? Throughout this, no mention of defense witnesses in support have been identified. Giuliani said he would but he would end up under indictment if he testified under oath.

Nobody worries about Trump's "defense" by involved players in the Ukraine scandal. I would love to see them dragged before the court and testify under oath. It would be a helluva show.

If it leads to a legal proceeding the accused has a right to face thier accuser.

So you too would be fine with being taken to court and found guilty from the prosecution just "Claiming" there is a witness.. Damn, this is amazing what Americans are becoming ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

Whistleblowers are not necessarily witnesses, they are the ones saying this looks wrong and needs investigation. The witnesses produced from that investigation are the witnesses.

Now you're playing word parsing.. So all this from a person that just SUGGESTED, that in his opinion something didn't feel right.. Is that how you'd like to be accused, tried and found guilty?

In this case the whistle blower after consultation with Adam Schiff did start the fire.

The whistleblower isn't the accuser. They reported concerns to the appropriate authorities and those authorities investigated those concerns. In the unique case of the president, Congress is the accuser (in place of the government in normal criminal cases). The case isn't based directly on what the whistleblower said but on the evidence that came out of the investigation but even if they had knowledge that would make them relevant as a witness, they wouldn't need to be formally identified as the whistleblower to give it anyway (maybe that has already happened).

It was never held up and delivered right on time.. Then there is that pesky Ukraine President with no complaints or no damning feeling about his conversation with Mr. Trump.. But the Democrats seem to think the Ukrainian President doesn't count in any of this, what fools they have become to take the word of a idiot whistle blower over the word of the Ukraine President LMFAO :) ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

If someone reports to the police that they overheard someone discussing a murder they saw and the police interview that person who corroborates that they witnessed the murder the original person would be immaterial in the rest of the investigation.

It isn’t word phrasing, it is the rightwing red hats trying to dance all around what is happening because much of them have zero integrity.

His identity is already known by the legal authorities whose job it would be to scrutinise his actions if there was anything suspicious. You're still missing the point. His identity doesn't need to be known by you or me.

Consider a different example. If a gangster turns informant and starts passing information about the gangs activities to the police, they will seek to protect his identity, even if that evidence leads to criminal cases. If the informant is suspected of doing something illegal themselves though, the police will investigate them but that doesn't mean they'll out him as an informant, even if he ends up being prosecuted himself.

No! The left in this situation is far more like the KGB.. They were very fond of having you relocated to Siberia or shot for no other reason then hearsay, or fabricated hearsay.. Welcome to 2020 Leftist KGB court :) ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

You're dreaming! This is not murder for one.. And even if it were, they MIGHT? Come to your home and ask some question and if the answer are "No I never" it will go no further, WELL here where I live anyway.. I imagine in some liberal shithole city they might cuff the little pushover and take him in to custody, but here where we exercise our rights it doesn't happen ;) ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

A better example would be to imagine a corrupt police department. Suppose that a gangster illegally obtains some information about a reformist mayor. He sees that the corrupt police can mischaracterize that information to plot the removal of that honest mayor.

Should the gangster's identity be protected? Will the corrupt police investigate the plot?

If the hoaxblower's, political connections, and contacts are positively known, to the public, public pressure can be applied to elected officials. Then, elected officials would become motivated, and freed, to look into this plot. At some point, it might be possible that the Justice Dept. could no longer avoid looking into this scam.

It’s a scenario to highlight the justifications for such. I started to try and dumb it down into emojis for you but they haven’t come out with that many yet.

Most of this is coherent — if police go to your home and your response is I can do what I want and I am going to block and threaten everyone you want to speak to, you will probably be arrested on the spot.

    This isn’t coherent

Give us name of the informants in the arrests and conviction of top Mob/Mafia that didn't appear in court to give testimony? Come on man, here is your chance to prove what you say :)

He lives under an armed guard. The lust for Trump and his cohorts for revenge is well known and the death threats are out there.

The public pressure already exists. All Trump has to do is request that the DOJ investigate. Let Trump get acquitted by the Senate first, I say.

Not enough pressure, I fear. Even Chief Justice Roberts is blocking the mere allusion to his name.

This plot has to become so apparent, that even the mainstream media can't cover it up, before anything will happen.
