No, there are presidents who lie and ones who don't, there is no varying degree's of it.

That's a justification that just falls flat.

When George W lied about weapons of mass destruction and sent In American troops who died and then destroyed the power balance in the Middle East and created a situation that led to Isis among other things, I’d say that was a lie way worse than anything Trump ever said

Because Trumpers no longer believe the truth or have any need for truth or real facts. Trumpers love Denmagogs and will shoot up pizza parlors for love of Trump.

That is the big one for me. He will just keep digging his heels in trying to make sense of nonsense. I was shocked when he made the comments about disinfectant and UV lights. He was clearly speaking to Dr. Birx and maybe someone else sitting against the wall (to Trump's right) near her.

Everybody was blowing up about it and he claimed he was:

    (1) being sarcastic,
    (2) directing it to reporters, and
    (3) wanted to see how they (reporters) would react.

Why not just say "I made a mistake" or "I want to clarify..." or something? Why lie about something when everyone watched what actually happened? I know that all politicians lie. It comes with the territory. Again, it's not the lie, itself. It's the ones he piles on top of the first lie that are insulting and annoying.

    Because this is his base:

You don’t have to tell the truth when you appeal to some demographics

Both parties make promises they cannot keep and they have no intention of keeping.

No they don't and they're not stupid, they just don't CARE.

Trump hates the right people, the same people they do, and haters gotta hate.

Hopefully, they don't really constitute any kind of sustainable majority in America, I really don't see how we ever survived this long if they do.

Sure they are. Perhaps not all, but a significant percentage. Look at his rallies. Look at all the Qanon supporters there. Look at what these people believe. They are completely stupid.

Perhaps you underestimate the American public. Politics tends to do that.

"No one ever went broke through underestimating the gullibility/intelligence of the American public" Widely but unverifiably attributed to H. L. Mencken, also, P.T. Barnum.

Or is that an oblique reference you're making?

I tend to fall back on Lincoln's old dictum about all of the people, all of the time, and hope it applies to our having better natures too. That may be hopelessly hopeful but otherwise the world is just too much to bear.

I get frustrated from time to time as well. I have learned to adapt to those things I can't affect myself. Do what you can. Worry won't fix what you can't.

It's the lure of a fantasist that is the weakness of a democracy.
People are allowed to believe in it.

It's much harder to accept the disappointment of reality.

Once again showing that liberals don't care about the poorly educated.
