Just my feeling. I feel there is not a lot that Trump would gain from being speaker politically. He already has his rallies that still draw in huge crowds where he can air any grievance he has. The speaker position requires he to be present based on someone else's schedule. A lot of the jobs is procedural. He needs to moderate and decide whose turn it is to speak, how long, count or announce votes. It does seem like a job that Trump would want. When he was president he released his own schedule. He could watch TV when he wanted to. He set the meetings. He could golf when he wants. It was his agenda and he could participate where and when he wanted to. Being a house speaker has a lot more rules.
Fresh Air is inverting the present- day perversion, in which the only "real," Republicans, are considered those who support Trump. Though it is a bit more idealistic, than it could be true, in a pragmatic sense, he means that real Republicans (Conservatives) would want nothing to do with Trump-- like most didn't, when he first showed up-- and that only RINOS would support the Autocratic One.
I'm not a republican but my opinion is that Trump is a disaster for the party. I think most republicans agree with me. If he runs all the democrats have to do to win is run somebody other than Clinton, Biden or Harris. Guaranteed win. If Biden is still in office in 2024 and runs it is a guaranteed loss. These views aren't about the people. They are about the politics. I like how Trump managed the administration but I would never want a repetition of the personality that divided the country like his did. He is a successful man but not successful at politics.
It's funny, that you're the second person in this thread to say that to me (@Dayton3 was the first), and some others may be leaning in that direction, but polls still show Trump to be the GOP's center of gravity, and, barring significant changes, a shoe-in for the '24 Nomination (at this point).
For one major defining reason: Trump fights. Once another GOP candidate shows they are willing and able to fight Trumps appeal (and novelty) will dissolve.
Donald Trump as Speaker of the House Next Year Impeachment Power! Impeach Kackles and Diaper Boy, then resume the Presidency while retaining eligibility for an additional term.
You have at least halfway won me over to the idea that this is the sort of thing that Trump might much prefer to talk about doing, than to actually do. But then, I'm curious, how you would see Gaetz's promised nominating of Trump playing out, should Republicans take back the House?
Not a chance, being S of H would require going to the Capitol daily or pretty often during the week and rubbing shoulders with the people representing the powerful. That won't work for Donnie Dips**t.
Trump would have to get elected to the house and his congressional district is mostly democrat. No way congressional republicans would make him speaker he is not an insider.
The Speaker doesn't necessarily have to be a member of Congress. People could argue in court that this is implied, but it isn't explicit.
Trump didn't sound too enthusiastic about the idea when asked, and I don't think he would ever really want to be Speaker. At best, his cult could convince him to become Speaker for one reason and one reason only: to put him the line of succession for President. That's the only thing that would interest him about the role. Gaetz is a useless clown, but if he got some momentum going for this, and he got Trump to agree to it, then how the House Republicans responded would depend on how the 2022 elections went. If Trump's toadies were successful in the elections, then he'd have a chance. If other Republicans won those seats instead (the one's who just avoid talking about Trump), then he'll definitely fail.
It is not but the house majority will never vote in a speaker who is not a sitting member of the house.
That sounds like one of those red meat statements to rally the base. I am sure by the time the speaker nomination comes up he could easily say Trump is much too busy preparing for the 2024 election.
Of course only republicans are clowns right? Trump's efforts should be getting his kids elected to office. That's what I would be doing if that was me. Ivanka or Jared Kushner are liberal enough to win as republicans in that 21st district and it is a very Jewish district. Don Jr and Eric should be looking for offices to run for. If DeSantis wins the presidency in 2024 the Lt Governor becomes governor when he steps down. Perhaps he could could push for Don Jr to be Lt governor then.
Nope, there are plenty of lefty clowns. Not sure how you missed that fact. I'd prefer not to have any members of the Trump fraud family in office, but I suppose you can't do much worse that what we've already had on that front.
He has not been charged with any crime. When is Eric Swalwell going to be charged with treason? He could share the same pod at Leavenworth with Obama and Biden.
you cannot do much worse than Biden. Have you ever written a post critical of the Biden crime family?
I have no evidence of a "Biden crime family," but I have supported investigations into Joe over Afghanistan and I've welcomed any legitimate investigation into Hunter, just like I supported impeachment investigations for Obama. But, as much as Biden is nothing to write home about, we've already done worse than Biden. Biden never tried to reverse an election. You cannot wipe your ass with the Constitution much more than Trump has.
He absolutely tried to reverse the results. He pressured literally EVERYONE HE POSSIBLY COULD to try to reverse the elections. He pressured the DOJ, he pressured lawmakers, he pressured governors, etc. etc. Read the Eastman memo. He left after failing to reverse the results. That's nothing to brag about.
He hasn't been charged with a crime for ****ing an underage girl he brought across state lines? Getting honey trapped by a spy is not evidence of treason.
