If it was reasonably safe and less than a year? Definitely. Would be amazing. I'd probably want to bring some books or games though. But as cool as it would be, Earth definitely has more to offer. I think we will colonize outside of Earth permanently, but this is obviously very early days. The company available would definitely make a difference.
I think I’d be too scared that I couldn’t go home again. I don’t think I’m of pioneer or exploring blood.
I mean, it doesn't seem out of the question... it would just be running with less gravity (so I guess it's more like bounding), much more clothing (spacesuit), and fewer opponents, on the friggin moon. Would be awesome, assuming one could be out of the shelter in a suit that long. New records could be set. Best marathon time on the moon.
The only reason to be on the moon is to weaponize it to counter China who will definitely weaponize it. Mars for civilian use is a death trap. Heat, wind, no resources to build with or eat, and very low gravity negatively affecting humans. Military has the budget to finance a base until the Chinese give up. The people going to mars will probably die there. T&P's and we'll forget about it.
How can you be sure that's the case? Is anybody sure? Maybe certain scientific instruments work better on the moon than on Earth or in orbit. Maybe certain technologies/experiments can be better tested or developed on the moon. Maybe it could be used as a launching point to colonize the whole solar system for resources or tourism. Maybe it would make great TV. Military is just one of many possible benefits. Maybe just doing it will improve civilian technology too, as NASA often has. To be politically incorrect, way better than financing bombs that just go obsolete before use at best and kill people at worst... or throwing food at people who won't learn to make their own food and starve anyway. Moon colonization is a great use of money.
