There has been a small discussion on the subject of member donations and capitalism. Basically allowing people to step over the line for a moment and then be allowed to pay for forgiveness. Likely this would include a failsafe as the staff would be the ones allowing this option....or deciding someone simply went to far. I was wondering what everyone thought of this concept?
I would say no. As much as I love to get in fiery heated debates and name calling with some people I also like to engage in calm, reasoned debates with others. I would hate to see the entire forum turn into a free for all.
It's more fun weaving insults into a seemingly innocent and well-formulated post. And also, being an internet tough-guy is just sad and pathetic so I'd rather not.
Personally I think forum rules should allow it without taxes or fines. Why do we need moderators deciding who's opionions are valid and who's aren't? Is this poll your way of saying your replies are less than honest?
Mods do not decide who is right or wrong....though it often seems that way to people who like to be less than pleasant as a rule. That you seem incapable of reading what is posted without adding your own imagined twist does seem to imply you would be fine having the ability to buy a free pass, looks like you are in the YES category. My honesty here has never been in question...though I have been a bit to honest at times, to the detriment of those who wish to play with matches.
Here what I read. You asked if anyone would be willing to pay for the ability to say what they really think. I already do that for free. The fact you think paying for honest opinions might be necessary led me to wonder. Beyond that, you can take my honest opinion any way you want. No charge. Sorry, I didn't vote in your poll. None of the above was absent.
You can already say pretty much "what you really think", so long as you say it respectfully. Most of the problems are a result of NOT thinking. I just don't think any amount of money should enable someone to deliberately say or do things to hurt people.
Most forums are bad enough with rampant biased modding (I haven't come to a conclusion about these forums). I don't want to be in a forum where people can be dicks because they're paying off the mods. I'm not sure if you're speaking hypothetically or saying that this is already the case, but I have wondered if paying members get special treatment. I mean, what forum wants to ban or scare off someone that pays their bills?
A definite hypothetical, thus the phrasing as a question, and the somewhat silly poll answers. From experience Donors are not given special treatment on the boards they contribute to, and in fact are generally amongst the most civil and valued contributors regardless of the donor status. The question arose more as a way to settle and evaluate a concept discussed within the forum....and has clearly been valuable in doing so as the site Admin has chimed in and thankfully explained it will never become reality here.
