    So were the Romans, Vikings, Spanish and English...among others. Who here believes "hanging, drawing and quartering" is a civilized form of execution? The form of execution used on Sir William Wallace and Guy Fawkes? One of the reasons why our Constitution has an amendment against cruel and unusual punishments?

    Disagreed that government or anything else is inherently evil although I find it interesting that you believe something is both evil and necessary.

    Governments are tools of man. Like shovels, knives and pitchforks, the user of the tool determines if it is used for good or evil.

    Executing prisoners is not a purely Aztec thing. Plenty of groups around the planet used their own citizens as "cannon fodder" and brutalized the conquered. The history of mankind is written in human blood. Same goes for the Bible. How many are mercilessly slaughtered there?

    It is a big deal. The modern secular tyrannies have murdered far more people, but they did not insist on ripping out the still beating hearts of their victims.

    I don't know man, The Romans used to practice "exposure" with their unwanted babies, resulting in how many deaths I wonder? The Mongols would build pyramids of skulls of 70,000 - 90,000 skulls and enormous towers of human bones at the gates of conquered cities. Not one time, at each conquered city.

    Yeah we don't do these things now, but don't just trip on the Mayans for it. Back then, it was a thing.

    The Aztec priests were apparently very efficient, stylish cardiac surgeons. A few seconds and they had the beating heart out for the patient to inspect.
