I've never understood why Israel is such an important US ally. The "country" is so small it doesn't even deserve to be called a country. It has virtually no resources or anything else of note. The only advantage Israel gives the US is the same advantage it gave Europe in the Crusades- a military base.

I'm not so sure America is beholden to Israel, but Israel is beholden to us. It's my own wild conjecture, but by the way the US is moving through the Middle East and North Africa, I think they are trying to topple an entire regions political hierarchy, replace it as their own, and, perhaps, have Israel posted as a sort of regional overlord. Hoping across the sea for every little problem can get expensive. Israel is the control point for American hegemony over the region, but of course it won't be overt.

I certainly don't put my entire faith in that guess, but I am a lot closer to that conclusion than a Rothschild conspiracy.

The idea that AIPAC somehow controls the US government is a wonderful conspiracy theory. Of course it relies on the jews being super duper smart and the americans being super super stupid. Somehow I don't think the americans are even remotely stupid when it comes to power politics.

I do agree however, that the righties who want to enact legislation that commits the US to fight alongside Israel in any war they may start or stumble into is outrageous, impolitic and reckless.

As for the various mutual military development projects, most certainly the US could do it all by themselves, but because they aren't stupid, they provide the Israelis with $3 billion in FMF's mandating iirc 80% of those funds be spend with US suppliers (although there are waivers in special instances). so those funds come back to the US, likewise, those FMF's fund the Israeli side of the joint developments. Since Israel has some very unique defence requirements, a rather consistent need to utilize those defences, and a whole bunch of smart scientist and engineers running around, the US gets the best of both worlds.

As to the contention that Israel spies on the US - OF COURSE THEY DO! and vice versa. Everyone spies on everyone else be they friend or foe, enemy or ally. so the conspiracy nuts and jew haters should just get over it.

I agree. The likelihood that one party controls, or is even allowed to control everything is very slim. But that doesn't mean that one party can't wield significant influence over the rest, especially if he sets up a system that basically structures this kind of reasoning. If this were impossible, then there would never be such a thing a kings, queens and dictators- a very select few ruling millions). Just like a corporation, you don't need to control the whole thing, just 51%. In that respect, alone, I can entertain the idea that an elite international communion of powerful men from politics, economics, and military backgrounds of a diverse group of nations possibly wield that sort of conspiratorial power.
