Non sequitur, Trump just could not keep it open regardless of rhetoric.

US utilities are voluntarily closing coal powered plants. Without the Paris Accord loons involvement, and without remitting payment to Vlad's lackies Macron & Merkel. Domestic demand is down and 3rd worlders can count on Merkel & Macrons commie friends to provide cheap dirty coal. Naturally US exports aren't as sought after.

And you ignore the Trump rhetoric in coal country to merely get their votes.........can you sell this to the coal miners that Trump sold a bill of goods to?

We'll have a definitive answer in 3 weeks. All the W Virginia house seats are held by (R)'s ... one noticeable exception Manchin.

Yes there is a reason for the closures

The market, in part driven by expectations of either carbon taxes or increased environmental restrictions, in part due to ageing coal plants have finally put money into renewables and guess what? They are turning out to be cheaper as well as cleaner. The right in America have been screaming forests down over changing to renewables but guess what? We had to replace infrastructure in any event why not use the latest tech instead of 100 year old crap

The problem with US coal is that it is highly sulfurous. It is cheaper for utilities on the gulf coast/ SE to import coal than have it transferred down south.

The only coal sector that is/was working was the type of US coal used in the making of steel. China was the majority importer of coking coal. China can get coking coal elsewhere.

Are you referring to the coal miners Obama and his team threw in the ditch?

What did Hillary have to say about it?

Now you are running to "whataboutism" for your defence of trump coal rhetoric, a RU propaganda technique BTW.

Strange that pre-Trump, any coal mine closures were blamed on Obama regulations. Come post-Obama with regulations now on the whole being removed, what will the blame be put on by the pro-Trump crowd

Sure. God forbid we continue the R&D to improve the extraction and use of an abundant energy source. Better to destroy lives and towns for the greater good.

No, I referring to President Trump's attempt to help revive and industry and the corpses Hillary and Obama left in their wake.

I guess you'd rather just leave them when O and H left them?

    How Progressive of you.

But why do the R&D into such a possibility when the Progressive approach was to turn an abundant energy source into the equivalent of nuclear waste?

But Trump did not save these jobs so his words were said simply to get votes, hence, rhetoric.
