The USA has an immigration problem which has reached a boiling point. The "progressives" like Gutierrez are trying to use immigration to tilt the voter demographic in their favor and people have had enough. Sanctuary cities which blatantly disobey immigration law yet the feds do nothing, and when states try to enforce immigration law the feds take them to court. Illegals get welfare and housing and medical care and college tuition discounts, allsorts of benefits, that American Citizens don't get. "progressives" want to give illegals amnesty while people following immigration law get pushed aside.

The Syrian refugee problem is bad timing in that it comes when the overall immigration problem has reached a critical point. Plus the terrorism aspect does not help them.

I support closing the borders to everyone until the USA immigration system is cleaned up.

We do not have to take Syrian refugees into the USA, we can support them in other countries just as easily and without any risk to the USA, without playing into ISIS hands, and without playing into the "progressives" immigration scheme.

There is a difference. That band of theoretical lunatics that blows up Madison Square Garden may call themselves Catholics, but it won't be a reflection of the Catholic Church because there are no other Catholics blowing up arenas, or raping and murdering and beheading and torturing several 100,000 people, or putting a man in a cage and burning him alive on tv, or throwing gays off of roof tops, or kidnapping 200 girls and selling them into slavery, or wearing suicide vests, or planting IED's, or murdering 89 people in a Paris theater, etc.

And Catholics would be up in arms decrying the lunatics, you would hear it on every news program. Every time an anti-abortionist kills someone (and there have only been 9 total deaths by anti-abortionists over the past 30 years) the pro-life crowd and the churches are in an uproar against the killing of people even the killing of abortionists.

Can't say the same about muslims.

First, you don't know how charitable - or how selfish - I am because I have not addressed such personal issues.

Second, "selfishness" is relative and subjective. Americans are very charitable, far more than other nations, and everyone has their charity and charitable activities. People do not have unlimited resources to support both their and your charities. You support yours, I will support mine.

Third, the USA is about freedom and personal property. If you want the government to support something - such as the Syrian refugees - what you are really doing is forcing others to involuntarily support your charity. You are indirectly denying my chosen charity my resources, you are making desperate people that you don't know about or don't care about suffer so that your charity will benefit. There are 320 million people in the USA, you don't know whats in all their hearts or what they are doing. Let them decide for themselves. Again, you support yours, I will support mine.
