In terms of this debate I feel it was a tie. In terms of the election as a whole...I think Romney needed to establish a clear difference from Obama on foreign policy. And I don't think he did.

Romney's bounce is fading. He needed a win tonight to get ahead. I do not think he got that win. And I think Obama, baring some major news event, will continue to hold a slight lead in the electoral vote for the remainder of the election.

I think Romney had a pretty good finish, especially when the debate pivoted to national issues. I do think Obama will be the victor in the morning, though... he seemed to school Romney on a number of points, especially naval needs. No hard hitting jabs from Romney on Libya? Constant agreement with Obama's policies? Not enough. First debate, Romney by a long shot. 2nd debate, better performance from Obama... but arguable result. 3rd debate, clearly Obama... as he should have, though.

As an Independent....I would say Romney won. No matter how hard Obama tries.....he can't change 4 years of FAIL.

It was just another episode of Amateur hour community organizer vs.Successful Businessman/Governor......

I think Romney won. Since Obama didn't totally choke, he'll be crowned the victor by the Obama media tomorrow.

Obama but not by a lot. I thought Romney's closing was weak. Just a laundry list of promises he can't keep.

Romney won pretty clearly but not with a knock out. He had both the substantive argument and the simple stature argument. He had to demonstrate he was Obama's equal in knowledge and Obama ceded that from the beginning.

Was everyone watching the same debate as I was? It feels like "no" because they were both saying the same thing and acting like (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es to each other in spite of the similarities of their position.

I saw the same exact thing. There were very few differences. I don't understand why anyone who thinks foreign policy is important would agree with what Romney said and at the same time disagree with what Obama has already done. And vise versa.

    You're as Independent as Romney!
Obama didn't fail in the last 4 years. . .he brought the economy AND our reputation throughout the world back from the edge of collapse.

You may be registered Independent, but that just means you are afraid of commitment, and you really are a brainwashed Republican.

On naval needs, if Romney had been given a chance to respond, which he was not, he might have noted that we have fewer of those aircraft carrier thingies then we had a decade ago, fewer of those amazing submarines as well and that the military still uses bayonets..In short, that Obama knew zip on the issue.

The military sends requests and has yet to be denied by Congress. Maybe you should blame the joint chiefs.

Not true...The Military under their political czars submit budgets that are molded before submitted and revised throughout the process by the political class in charge. It is like when any politician says 'more than the military asked for'. That is totally bogus as the military asks what its political leadership allows it, not what it thinks it needs. To become a member of the Joint Chiefs one has to 9/10ths politician and 1/10 military leader.

By the way, CNN poll shows that Obama won this debate (48% Obama, 40% Romney).

So you are saying that the military doesn't inform the CIC of what they need? Really. That's what you're saying?

If we cut it further, why have one? After all, when one has reduced ones capabilities to the point they cannot be used without losing, why spend anything. it would be cheaper to simply teach everyone Persian or Chinese? We are already weaker than we have been in decades. In WWII a ten year old aircraft was considered obsolete...today we pretend it is new.

Personally I think all we really need is a small nuclear force, our jet fighters still best in the world, no more soviet union building new migs and a small army. Who are we planning on invading we need big military budget? Would anybody invade iraq if we could do it over again? I think most would say no. We can do better things at home with all that money.

The budget process for the dept of defense is built around two basic legs, a prioritized list of what the military thinks it needs and a list of funding limits the politicians will allow. They tell the military what limits they have and then the budget is built and then that budget is trimmed. Bottom line, what the Dept of defense requests is far from what they believe they need. Politics and civilian control of the military is the art of the possible, not a reflection of what is needed.

While I agree with you, I think Romney established his superiority in business savvy. I also think business in general is more Romney friendly. I still think Obama will win a very close race.
