Does any country arm its military forces with .22 caliber rifles?

Oh. With all the craziness that's been going around recently,
I can no longer tell when people are joking, or when they are being serious.

So you want to take my last check against government power, to make it more difficult, but not impossible by any means, to commit the same act?

The Loughner and Lanza attacks were both poorly planned. It's amazing that they killed as many as they did. Therefore it was easy for the responders to quickly focus on them. They were more like crimes of opportunity than premeditated crimes.

But this is the basis of your entire argument, a counterfact. The idea that banning assault rifles would prevent this from occurring!

This is why i know there is something very wrong with this picture.

There is a focus on removing our ability as a militia to project a volume of fire, based on a incident that could easily have ended the same way with any weapon.

The U.S. does. As well as just about every other country's armed forces.

We use the smaller rounds specifically because the higher velocity, reduced recoil/fire rate,
and increased ammunition capacity makes it easier to inflict mass casualties on the enemy quickly.

If a criminal wants a gun why would he try to buy one? All he has to do is burglarize 3 random houses and he can get about 6 or more guns. Heck, some people steal guns out of cop cars. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/07/21/assault-rifle-stolen-from-trunk-of-unmarked-new-bedford-police-car/

I do not want to take all your gun's away, if that's what you're implying.

Do you honestly, seriously believe that your little assault weapon is any match for the government's military might? Reality check: If the government actually wanted to subdue the citizenry, it could do it in a day.

My argument? I don't believe I've made an actual argument in this thread yet, nor have I claimed that banning assault rifles would prevent mass murders,
but again, statistically speaking, if a person has to spend more time reloading they are not going to be as likely to kill as many people.

Nope. Drones, bombers, and chemical weapons are just as effective at subduing gun-owners as everyone else.

The question I was responding to was why knives and appendages aren't used to commit mass murder more than assault weapons are.
Not why bombs aren't used more. But since you brought it up, do you know how many people in the U.S. are killed by bombs each year?

The US military isn't designed to fight open source warfare. It almost lost the war Iraq. It isn't doing very well in Afghanistan either. It's not set up to fight a counterinsurgency effectively. The troops are great, but it takes more than being great warriors to win a counterinsurgency.

It doesn't have to be a bomb. The Homicide rate in America is 5% The Homicide by Firearm rate is 3%.

40% of all the people killed by another person in America is done without a firearm.

So that's how you want to live. Scurrying around like a rat from cave to cave, almost everyone you know dead, waiting for the next bomb or raid. All so you can keep your gun.

So that makes it OK that 60% of people are killed by another person WITH a firearm?

    1. What exactly is your point?
    2. Can you link to the raw data? (I'm just curious)
    3. What percentage of mass murders are committed without a firearm?

No, but i just don't understand why people think stricter gun laws will help. The vast majority of firearm murders in this country are done in areas that have stricter gun laws then the federal laws.
